My husband and I are looking for a hip, progressive, ethnically mixed city that is not over-priced yet. We have lived in nyc, Miami and La and have been priced out of all these markets with the overpriced housing. Considering Baltimore as I heard its not completely off the charts housing wise.
I am a chef and teach cooking classes and he is in the renewable energy business and we work for ourselves.
Both of us like good food, outdoors stuff like biking and hiking and enjoy a liberal atmosphere.
Are we dreaming or might Baltimore be a good fit?

I'm moving to an apartment later this summer, and I need to get furniture for it (starting from nothing). I really like a particular kind of furniture: severe, simple, anonymous, functional. Think of the Lehni Bed 1
, beautiful but bare Shaker woodworking
, Donald Judd's standing writing desk
, Aalto's Paimio chair
, and so on. All of this stuff is crushingly beyond-super-expensive. I'd love to get suggestions for alternatives, cheaper things in that style from major retailers, craftspeople who make pieces like these, and, in general, furniture along those lines that you don't have to buy from Switzerland for a million skillion dollars -- stuff that's well made but with adult-reasonable prices. (It would be great if this was available in the New York City area, as well, but I welcome answers beyond that, to make this question useful to people elsewhere with similar interests.) Thanks!

We're going to do a couple days in Los Angeles for a mini honeymoon next Thur/Fri nights. Want to see the Getty Museum, Olvera Street and maybe some Hollywood. Looking for someplace cool and unusual to stay - we like retro, art deco, mid century, kitschy, cheesy stuff. Clean, basic, bedbug free, a fridge in the room would be nice. Suggestions? Thank you!

I'm sick of Oklahoma, sick of cold and snow, sick of everything to do with this place. I want out of the state, but cant' decide where to go next. Over the last few years I've lived in San Diego, Orlando, Cocoa Beach, the Chicago area, Tulsa Ok, and originally the Phoenix area. Most of my moves have been prompted by having a friend with a couch willing to pick me up from the Greyhound station, but this time I'd like to go somewhere completely new and for the first time truly start over on my own. I'm trying to keep track of cheap tickets for a dream international flight in end July 2011. However, almost all the sites I looked at say I'm searching way too early and have no information for me. When is the best time to look, and are there any websites that will email me with details once a good price or deal shows up? (I vaguely remember hearing of such a thing but can't remember the URL) [more inside]

My friend has no insurance and very limited funds, and is having some pretty funky health problems. He needs low-cost to no-cost medical attention in Oklahoma. Any ideas? So far, I've come up with this.
Any ideas? I know that he *could* go to an ER, but being saddled with a $3000 dollar bill is not going to help him out of his financial problems anytime soon. Anyone been broke and sick in OK before? [more inside]

I need an antique (or sufficiently vintage-y-antiqu-y styled) trunk for my living room. Problem: every piece I've seen to has been too big, too worn, too ugly, or too expensive. Where would I find stores/markets/fairs/dealers in the NYC metro area that might carry such trunks? I got a zipcar, so I can tool around the tri-state area. Insanely detailed requirements follow. I have an old Cell phone from the states ( i just moved to the US Virgin Islands) that I would like to have go to voicemail only (thus keeping the number for if / when I move back to the states and so I dont have to update everyone with my new number (they can just call it, leave a message and I can return the call with my local cell) but I am having a hard time finding a service that accomplishes this.
I want to keep my current number (on verizon wireless) but I dont want to pay 40 some bucks a month just for voicemail (thats their cheapest plan) a search online found a few options but they seem expensive... I'd like to pay something like 60 70 80 a year for this... Is that service out there where I can port my number over?
