My parents just moved into a new construction house in Irvine, Ca, and the front and backyard came totally barren. The house itself isn't that large (2100 sq feet) and the backyard is a normal size for a typical planned new construction neighborhood community. I'm trying to find them an affordable landscaping company or service provider that won't break the bank. [more inside]
I used to live in CT, where health insurance is cheap and great. A couple of years ago, I moved to NY (state, not city), where coverage is expensive and lousy. So I've maintained my old CT policy (Anthem), using a home address that's actually a mail drop. Am I living dangerously? [more inside]

I'm considering relocating to Seattle from the Midwest for a new job but am very concerned about affordable housing. Looking for a house or apartment rental within an hour's distance via public transit, if possible. Would like to spend between $1,000 and $1,500 if possible. Can go a bit higher. Would like a lot of space -- ideally, 1000 square feet. This would be for my wife, myself and our dog. Any advice about where I should be looking would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I've been shopping for AEDs and they're all extremely expensive. In theory an AED is just a battery, some circuitry, a case, and the pads, right? Couldn't a much cheaper one be made? I would think someone could have designed a much more affordable one. Am I missing something?

It's time to move on from my mail losing/delaying hosting service, despite their generally excellent support. In 2014, who would you recommend? Must haves: reliable, under $15/month, supports WordPress, uses cPanel. Nice to have: Canadian, green, some other awesome attributes of your choice. (I could get this domain hosted free at DreamHost as an add-on to my backup domain, but I can't stand their admin panel. As an alternative, try to sell me on the DreamHost panel!)
I'm looking to play tennis casually and recreationally in the Queens/Brooklyn/Manhattan area. But the costs and inconveniences are real deterrents. If I understand, I need to pay the annual membership, THEN a per-diem fee, and all of that AFTER finding a court that has availability. Is there a better way? (My friends in the suburbs drive to a local park, walk over to a free court and... play.)
Can you help me find the form-fitting, top-supporting undershirt of my dreams? I'm looking for something I can buy 15-20 of because I hate shopping and just want to get it over with. I've been wearing "long and lean" tank tops, and they're completely amazing fresh off the rack, but they get loose and stretchy after only a few washes and wears. Specifics below the fold! Looking for tips on how to do Hawaii affordably. My GF and I would like to go for about 5-7 days and if we can keep air, lodging and car rental to $1000 each we'd be happy. We realize that may not be possible. Since many aspects of a trip to Hawaii seem to be more expensive than other sunny getaways we're researching any ways to keep costs lower. [more inside]
Please help me find a new small, good gas-mileage, vegan car. The car cannot have any leather anywhere in its interior, and it should ideally be equal to or less than 175 inches in length. I would also like it to be no more than $30,000.

My husband and I are looking for a hip, progressive, ethnically mixed city that is not over-priced yet. We have lived in nyc, Miami and La and have been priced out of all these markets with the overpriced housing. Considering Baltimore as I heard its not completely off the charts housing wise. I am a chef and teach cooking classes and he is in the renewable energy business and we work for ourselves. Both of us like good food, outdoors stuff like biking and hiking and enjoy a liberal atmosphere. Are we dreaming or might Baltimore be a good fit?
I'm moving to an apartment later this summer, and I need to get furniture for it (starting from nothing). I really like a particular kind of furniture: severe, simple, anonymous, functional. Think of the Lehni Bed 1, beautiful but bare Shaker woodworking, Donald Judd's standing writing desk, Aalto's Paimio chair, and so on. All of this stuff is crushingly beyond-super-expensive. I'd love to get suggestions for alternatives, cheaper things in that style from major retailers, craftspeople who make pieces like these, and, in general, furniture along those lines that you don't have to buy from Switzerland for a million skillion dollars -- stuff that's well made but with adult-reasonable prices. (It would be great if this was available in the New York City area, as well, but I welcome answers beyond that, to make this question useful to people elsewhere with similar interests.) Thanks!
We're going to do a couple days in Los Angeles for a mini honeymoon next Thur/Fri nights. Want to see the Getty Museum, Olvera Street and maybe some Hollywood. Looking for someplace cool and unusual to stay - we like retro, art deco, mid century, kitschy, cheesy stuff. Clean, basic, bedbug free, a fridge in the room would be nice. Suggestions? Thank you!

I'm sick of Oklahoma, sick of cold and snow, sick of everything to do with this place. I want out of the state, but cant' decide where to go next. Over the last few years I've lived in San Diego, Orlando, Cocoa Beach, the Chicago area, Tulsa Ok, and originally the Phoenix area. Most of my moves have been prompted by having a friend with a couch willing to pick me up from the Greyhound station, but this time I'd like to go somewhere completely new and for the first time truly start over on my own. My friend has no insurance and very limited funds, and is having some pretty funky health problems. He needs low-cost to no-cost medical attention in Oklahoma. Any ideas? So far, I've come up with this. Any ideas? I know that he *could* go to an ER, but being saddled with a $3000 dollar bill is not going to help him out of his financial problems anytime soon. I need an antique (or sufficiently vintage-y-antiqu-y styled) trunk for my living room. Problem: every piece I've seen to has been too big, too worn, too ugly, or too expensive.
