My dad is 63. He's been diagnosed with pancreatitis, but there are a whole host of complicating factors, for that and for everything else. I'm at pretty much the end of my tether. Some advice?

Looking for good, cheap accommodation in Buffalo, NY. My partner is visiting to work at Buffalo Uni for about 7 days in late September. They've offered to organise accommodation in a Holiday Inn at $98 a night. This feels a little steep. We'd like to shop around a bit, perhaps look at alternatives other than a hotel/motel. Perhaps a student "sleep in my spare room" scheme or something. Advice much appreciated.

Two of my best friends are getting married (to one another!) and I'm putting together a book of letters, photos, advice, poems, etc. from everyone invited to the wedding. A lot of what I've found are love poems and vows written in the first person about how much the speaker loves the intended, which might feel a bit weird coming from the wedding guests. I'm looking for more general advicey-type stuff, about marriage as an institution or love in the abstract. Funny or serious; the couple are extremely happy together and have great senses of humor.

I want to take up surfing. I live by the sea (for the first time in my life) and I used to skateboard as a teenager, so it seems a good choice of hobby for a fat woman approaching the mid-life crisis and wanting both fun and exercise. What do I need to know? Can I just get a cheap 2ndhand board and a massive wetsuit and go for it? Or should I take lessons? What sort of board should a starter surfer get? What should I use my Doctor's Appointment to talk about? It seems like all my problems have gotten better between when I scheduled it (three weeks ago) and today. The appointment is on Monday.
