What direction should/can my life take now?

This one might be a doozy. So, I'm a 23 year old recent college grad ( this May) with a B.A. in psychology and no idea what to do with my life. ( Original, I know, but bear with me, it gets better.) Everyone around me seems to have what are at least well-outlined 5 year plans, oriented around either grad school or a great entry level job. Certain circumstances in my life though seem to leave me with a vision of the future that doesn't extend far beyond the living room couch and daytime TV for the next 10 years and that frightens me to no end. How do I change careers into the UX field without further education?

Jobs designing systems?

New career sought: designing and analyzing complicated systems; designs that will get made (but not by me) and aren't just in computer-land -- with variety and some independence while working. I'm essentially an ex-academic looking for something "alternative", as they say. I just don't know what jobs are out there. [more inside]

Advice Needed!

Advice needed!: Hi everyone, thanks to a friend letting me use her account. I'm a 25year old college graduate currently returning to school to do undergraduate prereqs to go into medicine. I live in Arizona and have a pretty serious situation. I've been pounding the pavement looking for work, part time or full time for over a year now, tailoring my resume for each application I make out. [more inside]

What jobs pay at least 50k?

Who gets arrested when our "urban outdoorsman" sign holders break the law?

What are the legalities of utilizing a homeless person/vagrant/urban outdoorsman for marketing purposes? I've read up on "Bumvertising", but other than some negative feedback from homeless persons advocates (wikipedia) what happens when one of these "employees" happens to do something illegal? How to get a job (ASAP) with a resume gap, no network, and no references?

I was recently passed over for an interview for a great job because of (I strongly believe) my lack of references (which the ad requested, but I submitted without anyway because my other qualifications were strong). I don’t have any references. Not professional. Not personal. I’m dependable (to a fault!), hardworking, and stable (years-long resume gap notwithstanding), but I have no way of proving this. I suffered from crippling depression and anxiety for years... [more inside]

Help me become employed in NYC - Preferably in Publishing

I'm in an unusual situation and it's proving extremely difficult to change things. Short version: I've been out of work for five years mostly due to severe depression, anxiety, and an abusive relationship, and have been trying to establish myself since recovering with no luck. I'm a bookworm with a degree who seeks an entry-level publishing position, but will take other (hopefully related, but not an absolute requirement right now) positions in the interest of establishing a recent job history for myself. Where can I find resources to help me become a freelance IT pro for small businesses?

I think I have the kind of "jack of all trades" IT skillset which would be useful to those small businesses, say those with less than 5 staff, who are unlikely to have their own "IT guy" in-house. I'd like to find any resources/websites/communities that would be able to help me move towards being that IT guy who can support these small businesses. [more inside]

Job-Hunting

I've been trying to get a job in a city 90 miles from my current residence, but not having much luck. Part of the problem is that I'm new to the management class and not really familiar with how job hunting is done; part of the problem is that my degree is irrelevant to my current and prospective work.
