In Archie comics in the 80's (and maybe still today), there was an ad where you copied a sketch and mailed it in, and a company would tell you if you had what it takes to be a cartoonist. Or something like that. What was the company, and can you help me find the sketches or maybe an ad itself?

I am 19 and starting a small IT business in orange county, CA. I have 3 medium size clients that use me regularly, and I've taken on my first employee part time recently. But I just had my first month where no one needed IT work done, because I'm too good of a job! And this indicates to me that I need to do some proactive advertising. What is the best method of advertising to get my company's name out there?

While riding on the subte (subway) in Buenos Aires I noticed an advert for the new Nike trainers. The advert was on the sides of the tunnels between stations (just before Carlos Gardel on Line B). There was a flick-book like movie showing the evolution of the shoes. You could see it from the main windows on the train but not from the windows in the doors. How does this work?

This shampoo question reminded me of something that I saw in the store the other day. I saw a Sunsilk "line" that was all in Spanish and was in a fuchsia bottle labeled "Anti-Caida", which means, roughly, "Anti-Fall".

Every car is advertised as "all new" each year. What exactly does this mean, if anything? Is it a completely empty phrase, or does "all new" have some technical meaning in the context of car advertising?

Billboards around town offer the service of "Any (lab) test." The companies offering the service vary, but they all include the word "lab" in parentheses. Why the consistent parenthetical? The service wouldn't really make sense without the parentheses, would it?

How much does Internet advertising cost?
I'm looking to sell some stuff online by advertising on sites like metafilter (through Indiclick, I guess) fark, collagehumor, ebaumsworld, &c.
I'm just wondering how much that would cost, and what kind of clickthrough I could expect to get assuming I had a totally sweet ad for something people who visit those sites would be likely to buy.

I run a regional music calendar/forum/photo gallery site that works mostly with punk, metal, and indie type bands in Chattanooga, TN. I know my audience really well and evidently Adsense does not and I have the dismal click-through rate to prove it. so why can't I just contact labels, artists, distros, etc. that I know my visitors are interested in directly and work something out?

Help me get started as a freelance copywriter. I have one ad under my belt that I created for the company that I work for (I'm not in the marketing department but was lucky enough to lend my talent). The marketing department is now run under a different manager and the opportunity for more is no longer there. The ad appeared on the back cover of several magazines. That's it...one ad for my portfolio. What is the best way to build my portfolio as a writer? How do I gain business and experience with an extremely slim portfolio? Someone once said that I should go back to school and try to build it through projects. This isn't really an option and I'm really not looking for any more education. Any advice is appreciated.

While watching the olympics I've seen a few ads with Visa's new slogan, "Life Takes Visa" and I really like the song playing in the background. It seems like a pop/rock song (with a little classical in there too), though it may have been composed specifically for the commercial. So my question: if you've seen the ad, do you know what song that is? (And where I could get it? - hopefully iTunes)

I need to get pencils printed with something different on each of the faces. Ideally I would provide a image (either separate for each side, or one with each side detailed out) that would be aligned and printed on the pencil.
