I've been looking to no avail for research into the content of song lyrics re-enforcing ideas like a mantra in the mind. Does anyone know of any research into this? We learn by repetition so one would imagine the brain isn't selective. Brand re-enforcement advertising works this way so lyrical content should too?
I am looking for TV commercials from the 1980s that feature mothers, women and girls conforming to yuppie, conservative, WASPy ideals of beauty and behavior. [more inside]

I'm a solo practitioner and that means I have lots of marketers telling me I need their services. As in, dozens of emails a day, between five and ten calls a week. The sad part is I know I need to step up my marketing, but everyone who contacts just reeks of "scam". I am interested in finding was to get educated about this which don't trigger my scam alert instincts. [more inside]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9_UqEs88f0 Does anyone know if the music for this ad was part of a longer piece, or if it was custom-made for this ad? I've tried to Soundhound it, to no avail. Thanks

A fellow aspiring entrepreneur and friend of mine is in desperate need of help. Time is of the essence! Here's the story: Two years ago he created his own business that sells custom hand-made clothes and products. He owns a website and is on all of the normal social media. One of his most effective tools to connect with customers is through instagram. He's worked hard over the years to develop a fan base of over 27K followers. Mysteriously, last night this account was hacked. They changed the password, hacked the business email, and have taken control of the brand. This account is the business' main source of revenue and advertisement. Although he's trademarked the company and taken all the normal preventative measures, the admin. at instagram claims there's nothing they can do to help. Assuming this is true, what are his available options? Essentially, my friend's ship just got hijacked by some evil bastards and he's going to need a seal team to get it back. [more inside]
Hi Everyone! All of my clients are asking for this style of animation/screen casting (SFW): http://youtu.be/RYZ7IkboW7M It's the manic screen twisting animation with text and simple images displayed over basic color backgrounds. I am moderately skilled in After Effects (and own the suite) so I'd love to accommodate them, but I am more accustomed to creating explosions, light sabers and monsters than this kind of stuff. I would like to know if anyone knows of specific online classes or easy to follow tutorials for this specific style/type of animation? I've found many After Effects tutorials, but I'm looking for something specifically geared to creating a video similar to the one posted above. I am happily prepared to pay for these as I really need to be somewhat proficient in this by early 2014. Thanks a million!
My great aunt recently passed away, and I was given this painting that she made. I know this is probably a wild goose chase, but I would love to figure out who is the subject. [more inside]

Recently I haven't been able to read anything on the web without seeing, in the "From the web" or "Related content" sections at the bottom of the page, two disgusting images that trigger my Trypophobia. I'm not going to link to the articles / images to avoid driving any more traffic to them, but one is an article on the infamous Surinam toad, the other is the one with the image of the person's knees covered in indentations from allegedly having knelt in frozen peas. Both links usually appears with some variation of the heading "You'll never believe what this!" These images are viscerally disgusting and disturbing to me, and I believe they are of course intended to be in order to drive clicks, and I want to stop seeing them (I see them on average about 3-4 times a day for the last couple of weeks.) I already use AdBlock for Google Chrome, but this doesn't block "sponsored content". Is there anything else I can do?
I'm trying to track down a television ad for instant soup that aired in Latin America in the 1990s. A young woman arrives home, prepares the advertiser's instant soup, and sits down to eat in front of a computer. On the screen, a man is waiting to welcome her to dinner, which was science fiction when the commercial aired. [more inside]

What should my day rate be for copywriting at a major ad agency in New York City? [more inside]
My career as a high end photo retoucher for magazines seems to be winding down, mostly because of the shift from print to digital/ipad consumption of content. Seems that my options are to gear up my portfolio to work for ad agencies, or learn to be a decent illustrator if I stay with it. Even so, I'm not confident that there will be enough work as things move forward. [more inside]
I was going to write a long explanation of why I want to quit, but really, none of it matters. I'm a PM in Advertising - I have worked at small agencies and probably never want a long term, real FT gig at a big shop. I would be okay contracting at a place like that. If I decide to quit this job, I will likely do so in favor of a contract, and will likely avoid a real FT gig for some time due to agency burn out (unless I get an offer from a known quantity, which is a possibility but not a certainty). All in all, I'd much rather be without anything to do and the option to do what I'd like instead, rather than where I am now, which is nothing to do and ready to lose my mind. [more inside]
I know this question is rather vague since the size of the law firms may be different, and localities affect advertising rates. But in your experience, how much do law firms / attorneys spend on advertising every month?
I reported gender wage discrimination on Wednesday and lost the job on Thursday. There are two companies involved, an advertising agency and a creative staffing agency. I've looked into the EEOC claims process, and I'm not sure how it applies here because the two companies may be able to successfully bounce responsibility back and forth. Their 800 number tells me that there is about a 2-hour wait time to talk to anyone, so I'm hoping that someone can tell me if it's worth wasting my time with the soul-crushing bureaucracy. I hear that creators of very popular YouTube videos get paid for advertising. Normally they would welcome this, but I'm curious about what options a person has for keeping ads off their YouTube video, especially in the case where the video has been viewed very many times. Is it possible to keep ads off such a video altogether? And what would an effort to minimize advertising do to a video creator's ability to earn money (from YouTube) by posting videos on YouTube? (I imagine it would destroy it, but I don't know for sure.)

Facebook has sent me a code for $50 in free advertising to use in promoting my blog and/or its page on FB. Is it worth bothering to set up a $50 advertisement on Facebook when I'm not willing to spend anything at all on advertising over and above that? And it makes me nervous that they want my credit card info up front — are there pitfalls to avoid in making sure nothing gets charged to my credit card?
I am an illustrator and have been recently contacted by the magazine Uppercase, who offered me an opportunity to be part of the third edition of Work/Life, an annual book dedicated to the work of 100 international illustrators. While surely nicely curated and distributed, Uppercase Work/Life asks their applicants to pay a CDN $500 fee to have a two-page spread. Is it worth it? [more inside]
I'm looking for mission statements from 90's advertising agencies. Specifically, super "edgy" ad agencies that targeted the Gen-X demographic. The more over the top and "extreme" the better. Worst-case scenario, I'd love to know where to start looking for them myself.
An advertising company called my place of business and basically deceived one of my employees over the phone. Long story short, they made it sound like they were confirming an existing advertisement, rather than making it clear that they were soliciting new business. The charge for the service is $599. The advertising company is located in the state of NY and my business is in OR. I have submitted a complaint through the Better Business Bureau, but we have no resolution yet and the Advertising business in question is holding steady on their position that I owe them the money. I feel that their tactics were deceitful, and we would have never signed up with them if they had made it clear that is what they were trying to do. Since it looks like the BBB route is going to fail, what are my other options?

A client has asked me, of all people, to suggest some awesome schwag ideas for a major international advertising event next year. At this event, every booth has schwag, and we want the schwag that will outschwag all other schwag. The booth will be handling 800+ people a day, and focused on "interactivity", so the schwag in question should be customizable on the spot. We have 6+ months to get whatever it is ready. Essentially, the sky's the limit. Name your ideal schwag. [more inside]
