Is there a formula related to the statement "What's old becomes new again"? As middle age encroaches, it becomes harder and harder not to see history recycled and repackaged whether fashion, music, etc... [more inside]

I'm looking for musicians who've decided not to be on MySpace Music (because they don't want to provide free content/traffic for News Corp., because they don't want their work next to ads, or for other reasons related to MySpace). Where are statements, blog posts, etc., by such musicians? Your own thoughts on these issues are welcome too.

I'm looking for a video clip of the "Loyal" TV ad campaign that ran in New Zealand during the America's Cup against Alinghi last year. There are plenty of copies of the original Dave Dobbyn version but I'm looking for the one with NZ'ers holding hands across the nation etc. YouTube and Goo have failed me. Any clues?

Where can I find a (preferably downloadable) online copy of a recent TV commercial advertising a nuclear power company? I saw the ad all summer on CNN (United States) and I'm not sure if they're still running. The ad is a quirky animated piece showing the step-by-step process of nuclear energy, from mining to usage. It's presented in a 3D isometric perspective, similar to eboy/pixel art. I'd like to present it to a class I'm teaching, as the ad style liberally borrows from a Royksopp music video from a few years back. Thanks!

I run a regional music calendar/forum/photo gallery site that works mostly with punk, metal, and indie type bands in Chattanooga, TN. I know my audience really well and evidently Adsense does not and I have the dismal click-through rate to prove it. so why can't I just contact labels, artists, distros, etc. that I know my visitors are interested in directly and work something out? While watching the olympics I've seen a few ads with Visa's new slogan, "Life Takes Visa" and I really like the song playing in the background. It seems like a pop/rock song (with a little classical in there too), though it may have been composed specifically for the commercial. So my question: if you've seen the ad, do you know what song that is? (And where I could get it? - hopefully iTunes)

I'm the webmaster (well, host is more like it) for a band of talented young men with whom I attend high school. They're having a concert in an auditorium with seating for over 500 and I'd like to see it filled. How do you go about promoting a small local band's concert? [mi] [more inside]

(1) what do you think is the most egregious use of a song in a commercial/movie/tv series, i.e., Pete Townshend's "Let My Love Open the Door" during a commercial for J.C. Penney's, and (2) take a product and think of the worst possible song that could be used in an advertisement for it.

I've got about 400 MB of my (as in I made it, I own it) music that I want to host somewhere. I'm willing to pay and I don't want my users seeing popups or anything like that. My html is hosted somewhere else already so I just need space for the mp3 files. Any help? I've been looking at hosting services for days and I can't find the kind of deal that I'm sure is out there.
