I'm in stansted. Ryanair have messed up. My flight, so I either go home or go elsewhere. What's the cheapestflight, coolest to a euro using country? Also interney is flaky. Making searches hard
Recommendations for fun fantasy with solid female leads? I've happily gone through all the wonderful recommendations in my last question (Books of friends saving the world) and finished A Discovery of Witches-- which almost destroyed my love for fun fantasy. [more inside]
I made a bet and lost... My boyfriend IS working New Year's Eve and New Year's Day (in a restaurant) and now I'm planless and looking for something to do in London, UK or beyond. Caveats: Most of my friends are still out of town, I'm a non drinker, and I have a dog (although she could be happily left alone for the evening/sent to dog sitters). What would you do in my situation?
I'm out of books to read. I realize I've been loving books (more so in the fantasy realm) of a group of people (including solid female characters) who become friends and adventure, travel, or go on a mission to save something from some danger. Recommendations? [more inside]
I'm traveling to Vietnam in mid November for two weeks with my partner, and am having trouble nailing down spots to visit/stay. We've settled on visiting Phu Quoc, but would love any/all suggestions. If you've traveled around southern Vietnam, what was a must see/do for you? [more inside]
Due to a series of unfortunate events, I'll be in the Salt Lake City airport from 4pm-1am today. Is it worth going into SLC from the airport? Anything exciting going on tonight? Anything worth checking out in the airport?
Solo traveling mefites! Have you found active travel tours that tend to learn a little to the younger crowd. I'm not trying to find a singles-ready-to-mingle tour, but would hike with folks who are more excited about the hike than the souvenirs. I'm comfortable traveling solo to most places - but, who wants to go on a safari solo? Ideas for companies or feedback from those who have taken REI-type travel tours would be great! Thanks globe-trotters,
Next month I have a 10:30pm flight out of San Diego and all my mates are leaving in the morning. What lovely fun thing could I do that I could only do there? Or, never mind me, what would you do if you just had 12 hours in San Diego? [more inside]
I was thinking last night that I would would like to start being cooler. One way I have came up with is by using some really cool parting words when leaving work or groups of friends (hopefully I can get some with this new "cool" plan). Some phrases that I came up with were "Stay gold Ponyboy" and "Be Excellent to each other". Now wouldn't I be cool? But that won't get me very far down the road. What are some other awesome Pop Culture phrases I can use to leave a cool impression on people?
I am looking for the female equivalent to Tycho Brahe, someone who's life was full of both achievement and adventure. A woman who has a list of great deeds (such as discovering a supernova) and also great stories (like getting a moose drunk, or losing their nose in a duel over maths) Is there such a woman (Well, I know there must have been, but more accurately has history recorded such a woman)
As I'm spending more and more time on bike trips where there are many long stretches without access to reliable tap water, I'm starting to investigate water filters and purifiers as a supplement/backup solution in case the extra water I carry runs out or spills or whatever. But there are so many kinds, and some of them seem really sketchy, and I'm getting overwhelmed! Can you point me to a good, comprehensive resource on how to choose and use water purifiers and filters? Or can you talk me through a typical real-world use? Take for granted that I'll be using them within the US and am unlikely to be traveling in areas where the natural water supply is seriously contaminated.

Every year for our gift exchange, there's a theme. This year the theme is kind of action - adventure related, think about some of the activities on the Amazing Race. I'd like to give something more "do something" than "get something" this year, given the following parameters:
- Less than $100
- Probably within 1 - 2 hours drive of the East bay / Oakland / Walnut Creek, California
- Gift will be for an individual, but with a family, so family friendly preferred
- Will mail me a gift certificate / gift card online or via phone.
