I run a regional music calendar/forum/photo gallery site that works mostly with punk, metal, and indie type bands in Chattanooga, TN. I know my audience really well and evidently Adsense does not and I have the dismal click-through rate to prove it. so why can't I just contact labels, artists, distros, etc. that I know my visitors are interested in directly and work something out? I recently put Adbrite on my blog. But no advertisers have signed up in one month.
I reduced the price every week for a text ad from $30 to $10 per week now for a good location in the sidebar. For 2000+ pageviews per day, is it too much to ask for?
Many sites with lesser page views and higher rates are full of Adrite advertisers. What is the secret of making money with Adbrite?

If I suddenly posted something on my website that I knew would get a ton of traffic, what would be the best way to, literally, capitalize on that traffic? If lightning struck, who would I call/partner with to make sure I got the maximum $$ possible out of all those eyeballs? Assume "selling out to the Man" would not be a concern, and further assume I would have very little time to arrange whatever the answer is. Also, assume the new higher traffic would be short-lived, a few weeks at most.

In the U.S., some televised prescription drug ads tell you exactly what the drug is for. Others only allude cryptically to the drug's function. Still others just show a middle-aged, sweater-clad couple enjoying a sunset on a beach. Or Mike Ditka. Why?

Faux homemade posters asking "Where is my Garden Gnome" (with the URL of this site) have been popping all over my neighborhood in nyc. On the poster (visible here, pdf) is a toll free number with a funny "homespun" message. This definitely has the feel of some guerrilla marketing campaign. (Who would pay for all those toll free calls...) Or is it some new hoax art project? An (inefficient) email harvester (see the disclaimer on the contact page...)? What? Anyone have any idea? (btw: there was an Oct 28th MeFi FPP about gnomes, but the FPP link is dead... was this related?)
