Photo Library

I have several thousand images from almost 30 years of photography and filmmaking scattered throughout one of four hard drives on my Mac. I want to move all my images to their own drive, build a searchable photo library, and I need a way to organize, tag, search, and easily find images. I'm planning to dedicate one of my drives to images, layered Photoshop files, short films I'm making, and maybe iTunes. I'd like to start tagging my photos so I can easily find images of previous jobs, portfolio pieces, etc. The end result would be my own image library so I could search for and view images with specific tags.

I DO NOT want to use Flickr or Picasa or any other web-based service. I want the images and the library/database on my local drive.

How do I build/create such a library? Do I need to create a searchable database? I have Adobe Lightroom--would this software work for sorting and tagging images? If not, what should I use?

Text Length in InDesign

This seems like it should be simple, but I'm not sure how to search for it: after placing images into an InDesign file, the text flows around it, but it isn't automatically extending the pages at the end of the document to make up for it. How do I do this? The text is currently just cutting off where the document ended based on placing the text to begin with. Adding images is necessarily making the text longer, but InDesign isn't making the document any longer to accommodate the extra space.

Can you "Save For Web" in Lightroom?

Best web photo prep software? Will Lightroom work? Asking for a friend: She is using Adobe Lightroom on a Mac and is familiar with preparing photos for print. Now she needs to be able to prepare photos for a webblog (usually jpgs at medium compression and at no more than 500 pixels wide.)

I looked (quickly) at Lightroom and couldn't figure out how to first, resize an image and second, control the compression. Perhaps it's possible and I just couldn't find it?

If Lightroom is not the answer, I was hoping to find a standalone version of something like Photoshop's "Save For Web" feature where you can see how much compression you're adding and what the end result will be. She could export her photos from Lightroom, pull them into some standalone program to prep them for the web and save them from there. Bonus points for open-source.

Any ideas? Thanks.

#@$%!!! Flash!!

Annoyingly specific question about a failed Flash installation on a Mac: 1. Some website told me to update flash. In retrospect, I think I already had version 9, but I went to the Adobe sight and downloaded the installer for power PC Macs anyway.
2. The installer opens fine and then gets to "Items remaining to be installed: 4" and just stops. Nothing happens from there even if left all night.
3. So I go download the UNinstaller. Downloads fine, but when I open it, my computer freezes - every time.
4. Have tried restarting computer several times.
5. Opened Terminal and put in:
cd "/Volumes/Adobe Flash Player 9/Install Flash Player 9 UB/Contents/MacOS"
It says: No such file or directory

sudo "./Install Flash Player 9 UB"
It says: command not found

6: For the hell of it, I also used Disk Utility to Repair Disk Permissions.

Computer Specs: iBook G4, Power PC, OS 10.4.8. I mostly use Firefox 2 but also have Safari and Explorer.

Flash does not work at all on my computer now, which is a problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated! I also welcome you to tell me a better forum for this question! Thank you! !!
