I'm looking for information on the differences in distribution of IQ and working memory test scores between those diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder and the general population. Ideally, I'd like to see histograms for each group.

I work at a desk job where the bulk of my projects take place during the academic year. As I have ADD [ADHD inattentive type], routines and a high level of activity really help, and I've worked hard to get things where they need to be. Once again, however, the summer slump is kicking my ass. Please hope.

I'm looking for advice on how to exercise effectively but safely on ADHD medication. My heart rate has been jumping up to about 170 (90% of the heart rate zone for a 40 year old woman) with moderate exertion, but if I lower it, I don't feel like I'm getting much of a workout. I'd like to find a solution that would let me remain focused and still alive.

After twenty-something years without an ADHD diagnosis, I started taking Adderall XR about a year ago and it completely turned everything around with zero side effects. Now I live in a country where I can't get it (drug laws). The only medication available is Ritalin, but Ritalin makes me feel like crap and I doubt I could take it long-term.
So then, how does one deal with adult ADHD without drugs, especially if they've already had such spectacular success with them? I know YANMD, but even if I could find a decent English-speaking psychiatrist here I get the feeling ADHD isn't something that's taken very seriously outside the West.

I was recently diagnosed with adult ADHD (inattentive type) and put on Adderall. I have very, very mixed feelings about this -- hopeful, because it seems to really be helping me in multiple areas of my life, but also anxious that it is a crutch that I can't use forever. Does anyone have any insight or anecdotes to help me either (1) feel better about being on Adderall, or (2) come up with an alternative plan to manage my issues?

I'm a 28 year old male in Las Vegas, Nevada. When I was in my late pre-teens, I was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder, and went through various treatments (Ritalin, Adderall, then eventually easing off medications entirely). Now, due to a promising promotion and other life changes, I need to be able to focus beyond what my self-regulation allows me. What can an adult expect to go through to convince a doctor that they have ADD, and to convince them to treat it medically?

I am interested in Behavior Modification therapy. I have previously been prescribed medication for depression and adhd. What I had suspected to be depression for several years seemed to actually be undiagnosed adhd. It took me several years to get to that conclusion. I had been prescribed Wellbutrin and for the first time ever I was actually able to focus and work straight ā without becoming distracted. It was amazing. Unfortunately I also ended up having a panic attack and being rage-y and more emotional than ever. I quit all medications a that point.
