Craigslist scam?

Is this apartment ad on Craigslist a scam? It seems too good to be true of course, and it links to a suspicious-looking URL where they ask that interested people fax them a credit score. I've been running into the more typical scams (unbelievably good deal, landlord in UK or Mali, will mail you the keys, etc) but this ad is the only one I've seen that asks you to send a credit score. Typically the landlord asks for an application fee so they can run a credit report. Would a legitimate apartment manager ever ask you to fax your credit score as your first contact with them?

Big screen for sale!!

I need to print an ad but I don't know how to arrange it so the little tear off strips appear sideways on the bottom. I need to print an add to sell my television. I want to post it on the cafeteria bulletin board at work with the tear -off strips at the bottom that would have my contact information, but I don't know what program to use or how to go about arranging that. I rarely ever use word processors for anything other than normal typing and printing. I suppose I could just write it in , but it looks kind of silly. Anyone ever done this before?

I just saw the trailer for the ostensibly terrible Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher vehicle, "What Happens in Vegas." Can anyone tell me if this is the first time that an ad campaign has been adapted into a feature film? I'd also like some background information about the ads themselves. Who is responsible for them? Where and when did the expression "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas" originate?

Mac to Mac with AD?

How do I transfer a normal Mac account to an Active Directory Mac account on my new Mac? I want to transfer all data, settings, preferences bookmarks and applications from a normal user account to a new Machine which is set up with Active Directory. I've lots of experience using Migration assistant to move users from Mac to Mac, but AD throws a new twist into it. You cannot have a normal user and an AD user with the same username, so transferring with Migration Assistant will only transfer applications and documents that are on the top level of the hard drive. No user data is transferred because the username already exists on the AD Mac.

What is the best way to remote desktop into OS X 10.4 from a Windows Server 2003 AD environment? We are running workstations with Vista Business on a LAN with Win Server 2003 and ActiveDirectory. I have a G5 running 10.4 Server on the domain, but now I'd like to know the best way to remote control the G5. Our goal is to keep it in the server room as a test machine and possibly a web server. I need to be able to fully administer it from my desk.

Why is my blog heating up?

Why is my MySpace blog suddenly so hot? I've been blogging there for a couple years now, with a few people reading it from time to time. But in the past month or so, I've been ramping up steadily and now I'm getting 200 hits a day. I only have 116 friends!

It's not particularly scintillating reading, mostly just random observations and complaints or whatever, but I do try to keep it kinda funny and at least a little interesting. WTF is going on? Is there a bot hitting it or something? Does everybody who blogs more than once a year get hits on MySpace?

This is so not a troll for further attention. It's just that if people really like reading it, I'd like to take it somewhere where I can get a tiny cut of the ad revenue. Thanks.

The new IBM "Ideating" commercial...What is the music in the background? Recently a I've seen a few clever IBM commercials for innovation. The music in the background hooked me the second it hit my ears. For 3 days I've diligently searched and have come up with nothing but a few youtube clips. So, what is the name of the song in the background, what is its genre and where can i find more just like it.

All your bass are belong to us

How can I find the right bass player for my band in the Philadelphia area? I'm getting frustrated trying to find a new bassist for my (indie pop) band. It has to be the right sort of person, but it shouldn't be that hard in a city like this, right? I grew up around here, but I went to college and formed my band/participated in the music scene elsewhere.

I've been posting to the Philly craigslist for weeks, and I can tell from my site's referral logs that a few people (around 70 this month) are clicking through to my web site from the postings. I've only gotten 4 or 5 responses, though, and no one has actually gotten to the point of auditioning. It makes sense that I don't hear from some people after I say "Learn these two songs for the audition, here are the chords and recordings," but I'm at a loss for why someone would read my ad, e-mail me about it, and then ignore my response.

Should I keep trying craigslist? I found my drummer quite easily six months ago from an ad on the Pittsburgh craigslist, and he's really awesome, and the Philly list seems more active. Is there something else I can do that will have a better effort/payoff ratio? A place I can post something where the right kind of people will see it? I'm not interested in wasting my time printing a bunch of tear-off flyers and hanging them in music stores where only pop-punkers and metal dudes will see them.

Here's the ad I've been posting so you can get a sense of what I'm looking for/tell me if there's something wrong with it that I'm not seeing. I don't want to waste my time on people who are not coming from the right place, but I also don't want to scare everyone away.

"How is that possible?"

Is there anywhere I could find an old Qwest commercial? Around 2000, there was this Qwest ad on TV where a guy goes into this rinky dink motel in the middle of nowhere and goes to the counter and asks the girl a few questions. He then asks about entertainment and she replies something like "All rooms have every movie ever made in any language,``` anytime."

I would like to use it in a project. Is it anywhere on the interweb?

They sell books where?

Why do book advertisements say "available wherever books are sold"? I've seen this in print ads, but also heard it in places like short public radio underwriting spots, where words are at a great premium. Surely the audience for a book advertisement already knows how to buy a book — and if not, this generic reminder does nothing to help it find a bookstore anyway. Why not use these five words to communicate something more specific about the book being advertised? Is "sold" a subtle attempt to bias the audience away from library borrowing? Or is this just a useless vestigial remnant of ads that promote a specific bookstore chain?

Best. TV. ad. ever. (if it actually exists)

SurrealTelevisionAdFilter: Did my friend really see an ad in which a family reacts in abject terror when the cartoon sun character on the juice bottle comes to life at their breakfast table? It sounds like something Saturday Night Live would have done as a spoof ad, but my friend swears she saw it on Telemundo roughly 10 years ago during daytime soaps (telenovelas). (And no, she was not under the influence of any mind-altering substances at the time.) She described it as a mother and two kids in a typical breakfast table setting, featuring a bottle of something like Sunny Delight whose label has a sun with a face. And, as usually happens in such ads, at a certain point the little sun comes to life and starts talking to them. Instead of the "usual" reaction though, the kids start screaming and crying and the mother, terrified for her children, tries frantically to shield them and get them away from the apparition.

I truly hope this ad exists because I would love to see it (and would love to be able to reunite my friend with it). So far, though, my google and youtube searches haven't yielded any trace of such a thing. Please help me, hive mind! Do you have a copy of this ad, or do you know where I might find it (or even some reference to its existence)?

I suppose HyperrealTelevisionAdFilter would be a more apt description, since terror is certainly a more realistic reaction than glee to an illustrated character that spontaneously animates at your table while you're trying to eat breakfast.

90's e-mail commercial?

Early-to-Mid 90's commercial: girl in bar slips guy a piece of paper not with her phone number, but with her email address. It might have been a club instead of a bar. I think I remember it being an IBM commercial, but there's a good chance I'm wrong. There might have been some text or voiceover at the end with "The World is Changing", or something similar. Does anyone remember it, or know where I can find it?

I remember ads from maybe the late 90s / early 2000s in bike magazines (especially mountain bike magazines) from Camelbak. These were fullpage ads, with a caption something like "Sweat out your demons -- refill with H2O." The one I remember distinctly had a photo of a mountain biker on a Utah-esque rock drinking from the Camelbak.
Two old CPUs vs. one fast one.

I have two old pc's and two things to do with them, but I don't know which machine is best suited for which task. I want to make two things: a file server, and an active directory server running Windows Server 2008 (beta, I want to try it out).

The file server will have a 2TB raid 5 array made of 4 500GB sata drives and a hardware raid card I have yet to buy. Mostly it's going to be serving about 100gb worth of small files (music) and a growing collection of large files (SD tv, dvd isos, and if feasible HD media as well). The AD server will probably not do a lot aside from being an AD server, though in the future it may also act as a terminal server for an old Wyse thin client that I will <s>steal from work after they upgrade</s> legitimately acquire.

The two machines I have available are ancient, but serviceable. One is a dual 500mhz Celeron on an Abit PB6 and the other is an Athlon XP 2000+ on an ECS K7S5A. Other hardware depends on what I can pull out of my junk pile, but probably I can max out memory for both machines. They'll both run headless and will be connected to a GbE managed switch.

So, what's the best machine for what, and why?

Looking for the name and/or pictures of a classic French advert with a pig. There was at least one in Paris on Rue d'Alesia around Christmas. My friend explained the ads were something that that was classic and everyone knew about. The Paris example had just a cartoon of a pig and something to the effect "Don't cry little pig, you're going to _____ (name of Butcher/store)"
How to create a new AD domain from an existing domain?

How can I copy an existing Active Directory domain to a new, distinct domain? How can I copy the the structure and contents of an existing Active Directory domain to a new server such that, when completed, it will look like the first, but will be a distinct domain?

I'm working on a project where we need to develop an integration with the existing domain, but for a lot of obvious reasons we can't work with that domain itself. The basic reason for all this is that both environments need to exist on the same network, but I want to prevent any sort of replication between the two. What I'd like to do is establish a distinct domain on a new machine and then import the structure and contents of the first domain into the second.

I'm not an utter noob with AD, but I'm also far from an expert. Is this much more complicated than exporting the first AD to LDIF, modifying the dc components in the DNs of all the objects, and reimporting into the new machine?

I know I've seen this done before.

How much should I charge for my freelance design services?

How much should I charge for my freelance design services? Have to give a quote by tomorrow, and I don't know how to determine what my time/my skills/the job/etc. is worth in order to quote them fairly. I've been approached by a lot of people who have seen my work in the organization I work for, offering me freelance jobs. I'm entertaining an exclusive yacht club right now for some advertising jobs, starting with a newspaper ad they want me to design, and moving on to more projects. Here's the thing, I've always done this for family, friends etc. for free or a meal or whatever, and now that I'm getting approached a lot I'd like to know what I should be charging. I want to be competitive and fair, and I don't want to cheat myself or my client. I've researched Google and my local area for other companies, designers, etc. but haven't found much information on standard rates or on how to come up with pricing, or how to determine what my time and skills are worth.

Any insight would be helpful. Thanks.

Help me enable advertising on my website/blog

What's the best way to implement non-Adsense advertising on my website? I run a marginally successful website and blog. I'm doing well with Adsense. Recently, some companies have approached me about advertising on my website. I haven't gone anywhere with this, because I don't know what to do.

I've looked in the archives in AskMe. I've checked out Text Link Ads and some other services, but I have no idea what to pick. I've cruised Digital Point Forums and other sites, but those sites are full of hucksters. I've Googled, but I mostly pull up services and affiliates and the like.

I do have the capacity to build something custom (husband is software engineer), but I'd be okay if there's something already out there. I'm willing to consider text links and banner ads -- and, yes, I'd be willing to scale back a bit on the Adsense ads. If I'm not using a service that explains pricing, I could probably use some information on pricing.

Thanks!

Where to Put Up Job Ads in Ft. Lauderdale

We're looking for workers in the Ft. Lauderdale area. Where should we place job ads? We have a satellite location in Ft. Lauderdale that needs workers, and I have no idea where to place job ads that people will see. In New York, it's all about Craigslist; but ads placed on Florida Craigslist didn't bring in the same kind of response. Any ideas? I'd rather have a general idea of where people of all stripes look, so I'm not going to be more specific about the work.

Everywhere I go... where?

Does anyone know the song played in the Geico ad with the caveman in the airport? I've been trying to track it down for a while; it's some sort of house beat in the ad where the traveling caveman is on the moving sidewalk and looking at his old ad.

Is there a way for my boss to screw me out of my $$

I work for a magazine publishing company, and I think I am making a lateral move to another company which offers more upside potential in the future. I get a base salary, but most of my income comes from commission. The company I work for is relatively small, a LLC, and I dont think there are any $$ problems. My boss however is somewhat of a tyrant. My concern in leaving is that he will try and find a way to stiff me out of any remaining due commission to me. It is currently and ranges around 20k, in which he owes me, and pays me off in increments per paycheck. When I started here, we had put the agreement down on paper...(more) But he is a very spiteful guy. It's a one way loyalty street. We worship him. he treats us like trash....But thats not really the point...

I know I have to, and am currently gonna seek advice from a employment lawyer, but just curious to see if anyone has any idea's on how he could go about finding justification to not pay me my remaining money?

In a nutshell. I do my job well, I work my required hours. I am the usually the top sales performer month to month...I did y job on the up and up and they will find no skeletons when I leave.

but i still have this fear....

thanks

I'll give you $1 for this car, do you have change?

Where can I find this radio commercial campaign for VW? The commercial is part of a series and it has this guy with a German accent acting like an interested buyer at a competitor's dealership. He makes snarky comments ("Car, honk if you are sucking." *honk*) and they usually end with this boppy electronic jingle, which I can't help but really like. I'd like to find all of them because my friend and I have discovered we both like them and we've decided we must memorize some of those lines to randomly spout at cocktail parties. The VW website only has TV commercials.
