Amazon.ca (that's Canada) has some big discounts on acoustic guitars. As an acoustic newbie, should I take the plunge, or is purchasing one without trying it first a bad idea? [more inside]
What are some albums that feature fast and virtuosic acoustic guitar playing/shredding? For example, I really like a lot of the Candyrat guitarists (Ewan Dobson, Gareth Pearson), and most recently I really enjoyed Paul Gilbert's Acoustic Samurai album. I also know that Van Halen and Yngwie Malmsteen have done some acoustic shredding. Any really good ones you could recommend?
This guy has the only worthwhile acoustic cover of Santa Fe by Beirut on Youtube. This tab sounds really wrong to me. The first two chords in the progression (F# and B) are good, then I'm like, whaaa? [more inside]

I don't know anything about acoustic guitars, and I'm trying to buy one as a gift for someone. I know that this is an intensely personal purchase and most would recommend against this, but I'm going to do it regardless... With that being said, I would like some recommendations as to what kind of acoustic guitar I should buy. The giftee is a bass player. He has mentioned wanting something with a rich, deep, darker sound, something with heavy strings. Under $1000, please.

My brother would like to do some recording (acoustic guitar mainly, maybe other things) at home and is looking for recording software for OS X. The ideal price would be $500 or under, but it should be something decent rather than just cheap. He "doesn't need pre-recorded loops, etc, so [he] figure[s] GarageBand isn't what [he's] looking for." Any recommendations? [more inside]
