I'm a huge fan of Four Color Love Story by The Metasciences.
Are there more songs like this?
The songs don't need to be about comic books, or even acoustic, really. I'd just love to find more obscure little love songs that are a little unusual. Recommendations for both specific songs and places to find songs like this would be appreciated.

I used to hear a very unplugged version of In the Presence of the Lord by Eric Clapton. It may have been accompanied only by acoustic guitar. If there were other instruments they were very restrained. Very plain vocals. Nothing like the drama and emoting in the Blind Faith versions. I can't find it on Google or YouTube. Anybody have an idea where to look next?

Over the weekend, I was blindsided by a powerful urge to buy an acoustic bass guitar (not stand up bass), mostly for noodling around the house without plugging in my electric or an occasional acoustic jam with friends. Can you give any buying advice or perspectives? [more inside]

What's-that-song-filter x 3. What's that song where a young man plays an acoustic guitar and sings "better let everyone in your life who you love know it, better let them know it, yeah, better let them know it?" And for extra credit, you could tackle two unsolved "what's that song?" questions from years ago. [more inside]

I love The Blue Vipers of Brooklyn
and would like more music like it! Suggestions? I particularly love them live and acoustic and wish their albums were just recorded in a room with a mic or two - so lower fi is cool; More produced isn't what I want. Also particularly love the vocalist and vocal harmonies (although instrumental is great too). Thanks! [more inside]

I'm looking for some completely acoustic "orchestra" recordings. I went to see Steven Schick's NINE RIVERS Part II: Iosis performance at Columbia's Miller Theater back in September here in NYC, but I haven't been able to find an entirely acoustic orchestra performance since then.

We played for years with V-Drums and just recently switched to acoustic drums. We've found that the cymbals get picked up by the vocal mics and distort or drown out the rest of the mix. How do we prevent that? [more inside]

I've been filling some of my idle time by playing Bastion (previously
), and have fallen in love with the soundtrack
. I'm pretty sure I remember some thematically similar stuff in Firefly, as well, for what that's worth. The Bastion team have categorized it as "acoustic frontier trip-hop," but since that's a genre that they pretty much just made up, I was hoping that my fellow AskMe folks could point me at other similar music. Special snowflake details after the break. [more inside]

What other songs are like Ross' Concert by Jeff Danna?
Instrumental, preferably acoustic with delight, energy and ideally a similarly blissful build and crescendo? Ideally I'm after pop-song length pieces. I'm not against vocals - the important thing is finding similar moods, expressiveness and complexity.

Calling all guitar players: Looking for popular songs that can easily be played and sung by a single person with an acoustic guitar without losing too much. Basically, the kind of songs you can put in a set list where people's reactions are to immediately say, "Hey, I really like that song," followed immediately by "and hey, that sounds pretty close to the original too!"
Also, very important: Any song should be playable by a *mediocre
* guitar player. [more inside]

I have been thinking about getting a tonerite for guitar
. I have no doubt that they work, but don't really wanna spend $150.00. I am trying to think of a less expensive, but suitable substitute that will vibrate the instrument in the same way. I am thinking an aquarium aerator with its tiny motor may fit the bill. Tell me how wrong I am and why. Any other ideas for a sub for the tonerite?

I've been playing acoustic guitar for a bunch of years now (and am so-so at it). I really like those transitional moments between chords -- stuff you can throw in to make just strumming along a bit more interesting; things like the turnaround in Alice's Restaurant, but even really simple things like -- starting on a D chord and leading on the low e string 0-2-3 to get to a G chord. What are your favorite little phrases like those? Or, alternatively, do those have an official name I can google? Or, alternatively alternatively, any good websites or books for that kind of thing? Oh -- I mostly play with a pick, so I'm more interested in phrases you can play that way.

Suggestions for acoustic music venues in New Orleans? I'll be visiting NOLA in a couple of weeks and would appreciate some advice about likely spots to hear live music. My tastes run to acoustic Americana, a touch of twang okay, bluesy too, and I already have a basic notion of the more touristy Dixieland scene from previous visits (all of them pre-Katrina). As examples of my interests I would mention the Nawlins-based musicians Mary Gauthier
and Anders Osborne
(or at least his folkier side). Thanks!
