In March we are going to be driving between Tamarindo and Manuel Antonio via 34 along the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. Google Maps says it's a four hour drive. We would like to break up the drive by stopping for a night somewhere enroute. We are renting houses on the beach at either end so seashore is not a priority. Ideally we'd like some kind of jungle/bamboo/eco hotel. Lots of flora and fauna.

My wife and I will be spending a week in Toronto in late July. Airbnb has lots of housing options, but we have no idea where a good location would be. We like to stroll around and like the usual stuff - museums, cafes, bookstores all a plus; nightlife not so much. We figure there will be plenty to see and do, but if you have some 'don't miss' suggestion, that would be appreciated also. Thanks.

Planning a trip to the Banff/Jasper area late June-early July. Not our first, but first in 8 years or so. There was an excellent thread on MeFi in 2008 concerning accomodations, but some of the links have expired. I will be there for a milestone birthday and want to wake up somewhere amazing. Must have internet/wifi. Must be close enough to amenities that if the weather is abysmal, we'll still have nice things to do within slogging distance. Don't want to spend a milliion bucks, but are willing to shell out for somewhere which is worth the money.

I need help for a two week rental of a furnished room for a couple near Shimbashi station or Akihabara in Tokyo. Rental budget is 60000~100000yen for us combined.
I've looked at the gaijin guest house links, but they seem to be out of our price range with linen and cleaning fees. Any advice?

Hi, MeFi's collective oracle.
I was wondering if anyone out there has ever successfully rented as vacation accommodations a dorm room from either UVM, Burlington College or Goddard College in Burlington, Vermont. I'm planning a Memorial-Day getaway there and, because my needs are few, I figured that staying in a dorm room might be the most cost-effective option.
Any tips, tricks or other insights would be gratefully received!

Where should I take my partner for our anniversary in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico?
We're looking at the two-night packages at Las Rosas, but would like suggested alternatives, preferably smaller and more intimate. Also looking for good spa and massage recommendations. If San Felipe is waaay better, please let me know. I researched it online and it looks like a marina and golf courses for American weekenders, which is sort of what we want to avoid.
Oh, we're also interested in a day hike, maybe inland in the mountains.

Pair of mid-20s friends looking for a place to stay in Barcelona in early June. I've read up a bit on the neighborhoods and it sounds like the popular, touristy area is near Las Ramblas. However, many of the modern tourist attractions are farther to the northeast. Help!

I want to plan a trip for my bf's birthday. I live in TEXAS and want to find a cool cabin that sleeps at least 6 people with access to fishing. I would prefer a secluded area where he and his standoutish tattooed buddies can be noisy and not have to deal with neighbors or uptight rednecks..

My wife and I are walking the Portland (OR) marathon this fall. Any recommendations on which hotel to stay at during our long weekend in the city? Somewhere close to start/finish, downtown amenities, 3 stars or better?

I just found out I won a scholarship for a month-long research trip to Amsterdam (yay me). I'm planning to go in January or February 2007 and need help with 2 things:
1- Cheap, central, decent accomadations. My wife will be going with, so we need a private room and bathroom. A private room in a hostel would be fine. A private house would be better. I'm aware of craigslist amsterdam, but wonder if their are other resources/networks I could tap.
2- I know I don't have time to actually learn the language, but would like to pick up the basic getting around, ordering food stuff, and do not have the time or money to take formal classes. What good internet resources could help me learn basic dutch?
