What happens after a bike accident?

My husband got doored on his bike. There was a police report, the guy who hit him stayed on the scene and was actually on the job (delivery) when he opened his door into my husband, who was in the bike lane. The driver did have insurance and presumably the company insures, too. What happens now? [more inside]

Insurance problems...

Protocol for an injury from a practical joke?

My friend's wife pushed me from their deck into their in-ground pool on Sunday at a party. Now my knee is damaged. I could barely walk back to my car; saw a doctor tuesday; complete tear of the ACL + more (evil triad if that means anything to you.) I'm married, have a 21 month old and work for myself (I make money when I'm mostly on the road, although I do some writing/consulting from home.) Minimum I'm off my feet for a month....yes, I'm consulting lawyers, but I'd like to keep the friendship, if possible. Help! [more inside]

I may have admitted fault at the scene of an accident.

I got into an accident yesterday. It was my first accident so I really had no idea what to do. The other driver kept insisting it was my fault and I just kept apologizing (which is admitting fault?). How does this play in during the insurance claim? [more inside]

Swapped cars + accident = insurance confusion?

I temporarily swapped cars with my parents. While my mother was driving it alone, another driver sideswiped her and damaged the vehicle. How does the insurance get handled? Obviously, the driver-at-fault's insurance should pay for the repairs. But do we contact my insurance company, my parent's insurance company, or only the other driver's insurance company? Hit and run insurance claim?

At some point, my parked car was hit. I didn't notice until I got home. It could have happened in three or four different parking lots--I ran several errands. There is fair amount of damage to my front bumper and a dent in my hood, but I can't prove I didn't do it myself. Am I going to be able to file an insurance claim on this? What do I need to know before I call my insurance company? Could this raise my premiums? [more inside]

Can I give them a copy of my insurance card?

I live in a apartment building with a floor of parking inside the building. Two days ago, a neighbor who was parking her car next to mine dented and scratched the rear of my car. The damage is fairly minimal but will require some work. She was very apologetic about the situation and left me a voicemail stating that she had hit my car and that would should sync up to exchange insurance information. Later in the day, we talked and she suggested the we exchange a copy of each others insurance card. In this situation, is it ok to give her a copy of my entire insurance card? Is there any information on this I should not be sharing? For reference, my insurance is GEICO.

Other driver suggested settling outside insurance, now ignoring me.

I rear-ended someone last month while on vacation and the other party, an elderly couple, suggested not involving insurance. The police were not called. After supplying an initial estimate that I agreed to pay, they suddenly realized that they are entitled to a car rental, too, and after I agreed to that they stopped answering their phone and email. What now? [more inside]

Why am I paying $10k for another person's property damage?

I got into an accident with another motorist. She side swiped my car and then hit a electric post. She failed to yield and was found to be at fault. What to do about a "fender bender" in MA?

In Massachusetts: Yesterday on my way to work, going about five miles per hour in morning traffic, I bumped the car in front of me.
