Ontario car insurance. My wife and I have insurance through PC financial. Over the last year, our cars have been damaged, but we haven't filed a claim. Now, they've requested an inspection of our cars. Is this just to ensure they don't pay for preexisting damage in the event of future claims, or can we expect them to get mad/raise rates for this? Ok, well, it turns out Dollar Rent A Car wants to take me to court for the $1000. (see: this question) I plan to file in small claims court before they can take me to court because I think that will give me a better chance of winning. However, I only want to discuss who is responsible for the $1000 and not whether or not I was insured at the time. Help! [more inside]

My car was just totaled by an unlicensed, uninsured 16-year-old driver in Chicago. I'm insured, but I have no collision coverage, so any/all expenses are strictly out-of-pocket. The teen responsible was found to be 100% liable on the police report. Can/should I take the family to small claims court? Related: Can anyone suggest a salvage guy that pays a fair price for junked cars and a decent lawyer to represent me in small claims court? Do I even need a lawyer in small claims court? Sorry - I'm new to this. [more inside]

So I was crossing the street right after work in the crosswalk, on a green walk sign. A cab was making a left turn, ran into me, knocked me down, and then ran over my foot! The worst part was that he stopped ON TOP OF MY FOOT, wth?! So he gets out of the car to check on me and i'm on the ground screaming bloody murder- BACK THE F OFF MY FOOT- pretty funny when i re-tell it now since miraculously (doctor's words) I was spared from any major injury! Out of state rental car driver who paid for the Loss Damage Waiver backed in to us. We have his insurance information and claim number, and also reported the incident to our insurance company, which offered to cover damages to the car. We think we'd like to have repairs covered under the rental company's LDW. Do we have the right to choose who should foot the bill? And is this a good choice? [more inside]

I'm going to be temporarily using a friend's car to commute. The concern is that my friend only has minimum liability insurance. I think I'm a safe driver and all, but I'd prefer for any potential accidents or damage to involve only myself, my wallet, and my insurance - and for my friend to get off scot-free. What do I need to do? This is in CA. [more inside]

A few weeks ago while playfully wrestling around at a family gathering, I was basically tackled and a knee landed on my arm, pinning it to the ground. I did not have blinding pain or anything, but for a few days after that my arm and shoulder were pretty sore, and I've had trouble reaching behind my upper back with that arm. If it seems like it's getting a little better with time (though I'm still having trouble reaching around with it to my upper back), do I need to see a doctor or will it just get better on its own? I had a car accident a few months ago and am now talking with the insurance company about the bodily injury claim. I've heard a lot from folks (on mefi and elsewhere) that you shouldn't settle quickly and to ask for more than they offer at first. I'm wondering how I do that. How much more do I ask for? What can I expect as far as the insurance company's response? How do I rationalize my bargaining? [more inside]

I was rear-ended pretty hard by a drunk driver while I was driving. I will have medical bills that are pretty high, and my neck will probably be messed up for months (at least). Will the insurance companies pick this up sufficiently, or should I seek legal counsel, who wants 1/3 of the recovery? This happened in Kansas. Anyone who has been through this type of situation, please help!! [more inside]
