How do I import data into a table in an Access database in such a way that the new table will retain all of the relationships currently extant in the database? Is there a way to make a new table and overwrite the old table (say the table is called 'users') and preserve the relationships?

I'm stumped on an Access/PDF problem. I'm printing a number of 1-page files from an Access report into pdf. The resulting pdf is almost, but not quite, right. If I select text - copy - paste into Notepad or Word from the .pdf, there's only gobbledygook, which means the pdf is effectively unsearchable. [more inside]

Microsoft Access: I might be asked to use Access to get information from a series of online EU databases, merge them and produce a series of reports. I know very little about this, and would have to get up to speec very quickly as the reports are time critical, and if they are not done well, there would be problems for the NGO who have approached me. Could anyone recommend some low cost books or other resources that could help me?

Is there a way for me to access XP Pro's system restore utility if I can't get Windows to boot in any way? I have access to two computers in one room so making a boot disk of some sort is easily done, but I can't find any method from Google other than those which require a Safe Mode boot, which I can't pull off. More details can be provided if the answer isn't a simple "no."

Problems with metafilter.
For some reason, I can log into the ask metafilter section but cannot log into the standard metafilter site.
Even after clearing cookies, history, cache... when I login I just get the metafilter site presented to me as if I was not logged in... If I intentionally enter the wrong password I am told that I have errored, but cannot log into metafilter.
This happens using Firefox and IE6. I've even tried computers at friends houses and the same thing happens.
Is this because I close the browser without logging out?
I've never had this happen on another site.

i have some of my remote users in the office connect to our fileserver using webdav as a means to quickly (though admittadly not-securely) access and change documents, etc. it seems though, that since using windows xp SP2 it's been dirt slow. my user will click on a directory, and it will take no less than 10 seconds for the directory to be highlighted. that's not even attempting to open the directory - that'll take another two minutes or so. i'm trying to figure out what's exactly going on here. ideally i'll be switching to VPN soon, but in the meantime, i need to get this working properly again.

I have a mountain of data to move from dozens of Excel spreadsheets into an Access database. The database is an existing one and sort-of documented. How do I go about doing this? I’m very comfortable with Excel, but not at all with Access---I’ve never used it before. How do I push Excel data into Access records? Are there any web resources I could use? Any books I should buy?

Windows XP Home. I would like to control access to certain folders so that other users can't access them. Is there either:
A. A way as administrator to hide the folders, and then somehow prevent other users from accessing the "Show hidden files and folders" option in explorer:
B. A FREE utility to control access to folders. I have searched and searched, but I can't find any completely free ones.
Thank you! [more inside]

I am a freelance journalist, and a document freak. But also I am very chaotic. I would like to use some sort of database to keep track of the articles, documents, web snippets, references, quotes, URLs, bibliography that I use in my work. But I have many questions and doubts [more].
Should I use a database that it is linked to the external documents (which I keep nonetheless), or should I go for a database that has all of these documents embedded? I work in a Windows / OSX environment (desktop PC and a G4 Powerbook), so this keeps me from going all the way to Access (which I hate) or Filemaker (which I don’t know very well). I’ve been thinking of keeping a MySQL database server, maybe powered with a modification of something like Everything
, and accessing the data via web browser, but I fear that the thing wouldn’t escalate well. (Keep in mind that I am not a programmer, I can install Movable Type or GeekLog in my webserver, and tinker a little with php files changing little things here and there, although I have friends that can help me)
I don’t know if there are built-in solutions for what I need, or if you can point me to a database template (for Access or FileMaker) already built for journalist research. The fact is that I have tons of information and documents (some of them already stuffed in CD and DVD backups), but I have a hard time keeping track of everything, and very often it is very difficult for me to retrieve information that I know I have saved but I can’t tell where it is.
