MS Access: Wildcard Query run amok

MS Access Question: I have two tables in a db file. One has a large list of single cell records and the other, a smaller list of records to be compared against the larger table. The issue is that I would like to use the values in the smaller table as wildcards to return like matches that are like the records in the larger table. Example follows. [more inside]

How do I get my table rows to stay clumped in fives?

How do I get a the rows in a table to stay clumped in fives even if I add or change the data?I have a long list of data that I need to arrange in a table, and I want the rows grouped together in fives. I'm currently working in Microsoft Word, and what I've got looks something like this Google Doc. I want the table(s) to stay grouped like this even if I add, delete, or change the data. If I just use the Word tables, adding a new line to a group will just create an extra row. [more inside]

How to truncate a string in Access

I'm writing an query in MS Access to get column 1 = product ID, column 2 = product Description. However, the description field has addtional spec data that I don't need. I want to remove anything after the first word, meaning remove after the first blank space. Example: Prod ID      Prod Desc 10-362-3     Packing DT 12-345-5     Seal XT L-23 Desired result: 10-362-3     Packing 12-345-5     Seal I tried to use FIND or SEARCH functions to identify the position of the first blank space and to truncate everything after that. However, Access does not recoganize either FIND or SEARCH. Does anyone have any idea how to accomplish this? Thanks.

I can't access my blog's MT control panel

This week my blog (languagehat.com) had an unprecedented flood of weird spam; as I was in the midst of deleting another chunk of it, I found myself locked out of my MT control panel (when I try accessing mt.cgi, I get "Invalid login"). Songdog, who helps me with stuff like this, posted a report at the Movable Type Community Forum, where you can find the horrid details; unfortunately, since I'm still using MT 2.63, there's not much in the way of support, and nobody's responded at the forum. If anybody here has suggestions, I'm all ears and deeply grateful.
