Build an Access database to display survey results

I've never used Access; I'm a SQL snowflake and don't take naturally to its norms. Pretend I'm your technology-challenged elderly relative, and tell me how to set up tables to run queries on survey results. [more inside]

Access to full-text journals online?

In a few days my uni library is going to cut off my sweet, sweet access to its electronic resources, including full text e-journals and online references like OED. I can get an alumni account for $50 a year, but that only gives me physical borrowing rights, not e-resources. Does anybody offer comprehensive access to full-text online journals to non-students for a fee? I don't have a particular field in mind - I want it all. I'm an Australian in Australia, if it matters.

Washing dishes in the developing world

I'm interested in dishwashing practices in the developing world. If you were one of roughly the half of the people in the world without running water in your home, how might you wash your dishes? What kind of set up would you have? Are sinks common even if you collect water from a public well or water truck? Or would you have a washbasin/plastic tub? On a countertop, table, or floor? Cloth or tarp outside? Would you use non-potable water to do the washing up? Save the graywater for next time or for other cleaning tasks? [more inside]

A chapter of my very own...

I'm an environmental scientist. I just received an email from a group called "Intech Open Access Publisher", referencing one of my papers, and asking me if I'd like to submit a chapter for a book. My first thoughts were "Oh man, I didn't think that paper was that great...". My second thoughts were "Hmm...I bet this is a form email sent out to thousands of researchers based on a keyword search, and it may well be a waste of time to submit an abstract." Has anyone else had experience in this sort of thing? Is it legit?

I can see you but I can't play you!

I've just successfully installed Win7 onto an older but servicable PC in order to use it as a streaming media player in another room. Problem is that although it can see all of the shared files, folders and drives on my main machine it keeps telling me I don't have the correct permissions whenever I click on them - but permissions are set to 'Everyone' and another machine (a netbook) I do the same thing with can see and play everything perfectly... can anyone offer any help or suggestions please, I'm at my wit's end! Thanks in advance!
