*shakes fist at Elsevier*

I'm heading into the Army for OCS in August, but I'm still very interested in keeping current on science and the current research papers. I've devised a contrivance to keep myself plugged in and reading - a personal blog where I summarize the papers that interest me, more simply to give me a place and a reason to do it. [more inside]

Convert rich text field in Access or Excel into plain text

I have thousands of rich text message message fields currently formatted in RTF (rich text format) that need to be stripped of their formatting and converted to plain text. Currently the field is in a Microsoft Access database. But if needed, the database could be sent to Excel if that would ease the conversion of the RTF to plain text. [more inside]

MS Access Combo Box Fields behaving strangely.

I'm putting together an Access database (woe is me), which includes some "multiple choice" fields, that contain a defined list of options. I've got some code that puts together a query, and generates a report. The way these fields are displayed in this report is inconsistent, and I'm trying to figure out why. [more inside]

Please help me set up some Access forms.

I have two questions about setting up MS Access forms: 1) Currently, I have a form to enter the volunteer id, shift start time and shift stop time, but the client doesn't want to have to look up the id in a report. Is there a way to create a selection list from the volunteer's names? What other options are there? 2) On the "add/edit a volunteer" form, I'd like to be able to choose tasks from a selection list. The tasks table has id and name. The "tasks of volunteers" join table has volunteer id and task id. How do I set this up? I can't seem to get the right combination of configurations. [more inside]
