I'm not a gamer but I sort of want to geek out and play with an Xbox One at launch. Besides going to auction do I have any options? It seems like buying a console at launch is meant to be for people who follow the industry or are really into gaming. Do I have any options at this point or will I have to wait? If I did have to pay a premium, what kind of premium over retail should I expect?

So after years of using roommates' machines, and having finished a well-paying highly stressful recent job, I rewarded myself by buying an XBox Slim off of eBay. Which I guess was foolish of me. The thing arrived with only the 4GB hard drive, so I had to buy a decent-sized one in order for it to do anything, and even then it started freezing nearly constantly. If left off overnight it will start up and work for maybe an hour before freezing at first, and then quickly degrade to the point where it can't even start up properly. [more inside]

The Xbox 360 Arcade game Alan Wake's American Nightmare just went on sale, so I purchased it. I have very limited bandwidth on my Internet plan, though. I do have a demo of the game that came with an Official XBox 360 Magazine coverdisc. Usually, when I have a demo of a game all I need to do to unlock the full game is pay for it, without any additional download. There doesn't seem to be any way to install the demo from the disc to my Xbox's hard drive, though. I do have enough space.
Is there any way I can install the game demo from the disc to the harddrive? I haven't modded my Xbox in any way.

My 10 year old daughter has done awesomely at school, and was promised a new Xbox game as a reward. She has no ideas of what she wants, and is excited by the idea of being surprised. What is something I can give her that she will love, but that won't make me want to write strongly worded letters to game creators? [more inside]

My girlfriend and I really enjoyed playing Walking Dead together. I controlled it, but she made all the dialogue choices and helped solve puzzles. What are some other games like that? She's not really a gamer and doesn't really get FPS controls (yet) so stuff like co-op portal and even minecraft is out. I'm going to try and see how it goes with Braid next, but are there any other games like Walking Dead where people who aren't actively controlling it can help make meaningful decisions or contributions? I was also thinking Heavy Rain, but I don't have a Playstation, only a pc and Xbox.

I love games where I can employ stealth, magic, and/or unusual skills (or sometimes weapons) to move through the storyline. I really enjoyed Dishonored, Far Cry 3, Portal (especially 2), Warp, and both Bioshock games. What other Xbox games would I enjoy? [more inside]

For the last two years my (now) 6.5 year old has been begging for a Nintendo DS. I've resisted this long but with the holidays around the corner I'm starting to bend. However, as I look at the options I'm torn. I play casual games but have never been a gamer. What should I buy, if anything? [more inside]

I've just been lent an XBox 360 discovered that I'm utterly, embarrassingly dreadful at First (or Third) Person Shooters. What I have enjoyed beyond all expectations though is Petroglyph's splendid Panzer General: Allied Assault
(I'm a big time tabletop and card gamer and own the physical game too). So, lovely hivemind, can you suggest any excellent card/war/strategy games for an XBox I might enjoy just as much? Thanks!

Is there a Tiger Woods video game that is considered the hallmark of the series for single player? Is there one that's considered a failure? Or is the newest one always the best one? I'm looking specifically for Xbox 360 or Wii.

Since the Xbox 360 doesn't have a browser I am unable to connect to Xbox Live on a public internet connection because the 360 cannot give me access to the user agreement (if anyone knows a way around that, I'd like to know). Does anyone know if the PS3 has a browser capable of going on a public wifi and agreeing to the user agreement? I ask this because I am considering purchasing one for the library I work at. This will allow me to download updates for our games.

I love Netflix and we have it on the Xbox. But my kid's moving to college and taking the Xbox with her. Can I replace it with an Apple TV plus an HDMI->Composite/S-Video converter or should I bite the bullet and get another Xbox? It seems a waste to buy one just for Netflix.

I just bought a new xBox, due to a 3 segment red rings of death that was not a faulty power supply. Somebody on Craigslist locally is offering $35 for red ringed xBoxes. Anybody have an idea on what his angle might be? I'd like $35 dollars, but it's not that important to me that I'm willing to contribute to some sort of scam by supplying the raw materials for it.

I kicked the DVD tray while it was open on my roommate's xbox 360 slim. Now it won't close. It feels like the gears are off track or broken.
Does the warranty cover that? If not, what should I do to fix it? Home repair? Take it to the local console repair shop? Can it be fixed, or should I replace the dvd drive?

I'm getting an XBOX 360 shortly, but I have a few questions about setting it up. For one, my television is very bad, so I'd like to use my computer monitor for it - should picking up a VGA cable be fine?
Secondly, I'm not sure how the XBOX's audio ports are set up - can I just plug my headset with a standard headphone and microphone plug into it, or do I need adapters? [more inside]
