I just bought a brand new OEM XP Pro SP3 install disc and it won't boot. Here's the rub: Computer runs an old MS Small Business Server and I want to wipe the thing and install my new OEM XP Pro, but the computer won't boot from the CD. Bios is set up properly. [more inside]

I bought an Alienware Aurora laptop a couple months ago which I configured with Windows Media Center Edition. everything has been working great and I like MCE but I have started to do some recording of music and it seems that hardware and software in the recording world is almost universally incompatible with MCE, so I bought XP Pro and I want to dual boot the two of them, I made a 10GB partition and put Pro on there, it runs but explore seems real slow, and I have to switch the primary boot partition from inside windows using a disk manager program and its a pain, I want to dual boot from startup, any tips? Thank you!

I tried turning off the welcome screen running Win XP Pro, but somehow managed to switch the default user to Administrator. So in order to get to my normal settings, I have to log out of that, then enter in my normal login name, and only then I'm back to normal. How can I switch it to the normal login (without the welcome screen)?

Home networking: (1) Can you point me to a clear, brief guide to File and Printer sharing between an XP Home machine (directly connected to a parallel-port printer) and an XP Pro machine on the same LAN? (2) Is it possible to do Printer Sharing without File Sharing in this setup? There have been many related posts, but I haven't found one that directly addresses the Home/Pro and print-only issues. Thanks.

Why has my Firefox slowed down? It started a few day ago. Sometimes it takes several minutes for a page to load. Some only partially load, then stop. Some don't load at all. Not every page is this way, but I'd say about 20% suffer from one of these problems. IE is zipping right along though. I did a virus check, ran Spy-bot and Ad-Aware and cleaned up my registry. Yet the problem persists. Oh, I'm running 1.0 and XP Pro.

Is there a way for me to access XP Pro's system restore utility if I can't get Windows to boot in any way? I have access to two computers in one room so making a boot disk of some sort is easily done, but I can't find any method from Google other than those which require a Safe Mode boot, which I can't pull off. More details can be provided if the answer isn't a simple "no."

Brokenwindowsfilter - My XP Pro SP2 box no longer automatically installs hardware. Yesterday I plugged in a plain old USB mouse and the hardware wizard came up, but after doing its thing it said that it couldn't find the driver. I had to tell it to manually look in places like windows\infs\ and windows\system32\drivers to find the files. Anything I can do to get it working again without doing a re-install? (The same thing happened with a USB keyboard when I tried it.)

Twiddling my thumbs... wirelessly! I'm setting up a new Windows XP Pro laptop with built-in 802.11b. It seems to detect our Apple Airport (I) base station just fine, and connect to it. Just can't get any network services through it (ie: web pages are all 404s). Any suggestions?
