XPath: Apply a "zero or more" quantifier to a subpath (or equivalent)?

I'm new to Xpath. Take the (see within) XML representing the (nested) prepositional noun phrase "friend of father of cat". I want to select all nodes where pos=NN and orth=cat, that are children of a nsubj via a nested preposition. The Xpath for that is this: /nsubj/prep/pobj/prep/pobj[@orth='cat' and @pos='NN'] But now I want to generalise this to select the 'cat' node at an arbitrary depth of nested prepositions... Adobe Acrobat Filter: Acrobat help, hacking PDFs

I am regular user of Adobe Acrobat Pro (Version 9, currently), for document manipulation purposes. I am certainly not expert at it, but I'm not entirely stupid. I sometimes run into forms (the ones I work with are typically from various state and federal government agencies) where the helpful persons setting up those forms either accidentally or set up with programming/permissions that don't allow me be able to manipulate the forms. These are not high level sensitive documents, or anything, and all I am trying to do is to be able to add/edit/delete various form fields in order to fill out the forms properly. Here is a link to the current form that has me stymied - it is the S-Corporation election form from the IRS (form 2553): http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f2553.pdf [more inside]

Is there any way to read .atom files?

Google Takeout allows one to export a blog from within Blogger, in the form of a .atom file. Opening the file in a web browser produces the message "This is an Atom formatted XML site feed. It is intended to be viewed in a Newsreader or syndicated to another site. Please visit Blogger Help for more info" My goal is to convert this file to a standard html bookmarks file, but I can't find any apps that can parse it so I can export it as html. Thanks for any suggestions. [more inside]

Program to download an XML file

We are trying to manually download a dropshipper's XML file of products. The file size is over 22MB and I can't open it in my web browsers Internet Explorer or FireFox (both latest). I tried asking them if they could allow me to read the directory the file's on so I could right click on it and download it manually but they refuse to do so. They told me I need to use an external program to download this XML file. I tried looking but with no luck. Could someone please help me. Thank you so much...

Migrating WordPress Blog to Tumblr

I have a self-hosted WordPress blog in which every post is an image (with alt-text) and a single comment. I'd like to move this material over to a Tumblr blog. The site has two years' worth of material, with about three posts per week. I've done a Google search and it seems there are three methods for migrating WordPress content to Tumblr. All involve exporting the WordPress Blog to XML first, which I've done. [more inside]

Help me populate a spreadsheet by scraping an RSS feed.

I would like to scrape information from an RSS feed into an Excel-readable text file for a completely legal non-copyright violating use. In a better world, I'd have access to the database that generates the feed, but since this ain't a perfect world it appears that scraping is my best bet. Are there tools that will help me automate this, or programming tutorials that will help me figure it out myself (it's been 15 years since I last write any code beyond simple SQL queries)? n00b boolean brainache

I've been trying to apply the boolean below as a filter for a bunch of .xml files and I'm unable to get it to run properly. Every entity (in this case car manufacturers) appears on a new line. I'm new to boolean search strings and am completely stumped. My main problem is that the car company SEAT is returning all results for the word "seat" as in car seat etc...Obviously the parentheses usually limits the filter to specific models. However, when I run SEAT on it's own it works fine. The problem appear to be that there is an error in my boolean somewhere else, which causes the program I'm running it through to ignore all the boolean completely. Thanks in advance. [more inside]

How to get an xml file (online calendar feed) to auto update to iCal or any other calendar?

How can I sync an online calendar feed (xml) with either iCal or Google Calendar? I know I can sync iCal and gCalendar easily through several methods. But what I also need to include is my department's events calendar. I can import it as an iCal or Outlook file, but this is only a one-time option. Once the department's calendar is updated I don't receive the new or changed events. And I suspect if I import the (newer) file again, I will get many duplicates. The calendar has an xml feed I could subscribe to, but can't figure out how to translate this into a calendar that automatically syncs or updates. Willing to consider any options that would lead to the online calendar (.ics, .csv, or .xml file) being auto updated to any calendar application. This would make my life so much easier! Thanks!

How to access and license sports betting odds?

There are a number of websites that show the odds and (if I'm using the term right), the "lines" for various sporting events that physical and online casinos offer (linking would be spammy, but a quick search of "vegas odds" or some such thing will turn them up). My question is how do the site owners obtain the data from the casinos? I have to imagine the data is provided subject to a license agreement (and I would expect there to be some sort of schema to prevent sudden changes to the format of the data presented). How would one go about getting access to the feed of the odds and the payout ratios (?) from one or more casinos without getting rampaged by hoards of angry lawyers? Contacting the casinos has, unsurprisingly, proven fruitless given the difficulty explaining what I'm looking for to a non-technical support representative ("So you want to know how to gamble online?"). NB: I've never bet on sports, so apologies if my lingo is off. I appreciate any help and guidance!

I build Flash applications for a living. I generally make them configurable via an xml file. How can I help my coworkers create XML documents to store metadata?

Generating XML documents help? I work with the county health department, and have been asked to come up with a way to create, store and manipulate metadata for various datasets we store internally on a network drive. Basically I think the simplest thing to do is to create an xml file stored in the same directory with any dataset. Preferably I can do this with infopath 2003 or free software, and using the Dublin Core standard for metadata. I've seen the 5 year old answers on Dublin Core Metadata from this Ask, but I need to let my coworkers create the data first, and that mostly covers storage/database solutions. Looking through various DC list archives hasn't been helpful. [more inside]
