I've been thinking of trying cross-country skiing this winter. How easy is it to learn, and is it possible to start without a great baseline level of fitness? [more inside]

How do I mount cross-country ski bindings? I'm a technically adept individual with the appropriate tools, but info (beyond "take it to the shop and let a pro do it!) is seemingly hard to find online... [more inside]

I have a pair of old 75mm Nordic Norm cross country ski boots. They're leather on the lower half and 'foamy' synthetic on the upper half. The problem is, the 'foamy' synthetic is supposed to be covered with some kinda of vinyl, but like most older xc boots, it seems that the coating has flaked off of my boots.
Is there anyway I can make this foamy section weatherproof? Can I stop continued flaking?

How do I operate early 90's vintage Salomon Automatic2 cross country/nordic ski bindings? Where can I find pictures/instructions on this binding? Can these bindings be adjusted or repaired? They're the original SNS standard and I still have the boots.

I"m looking for a winter aerobic activity to keep my fitness level up for mountain biking. Cross country skiing is one of them. What should I buy and how hard is it going to be to learn? [more inside]

OMGShoes: I have SauconyBullets right now. They're the best shoes I've ever had. I love them. Are there more ultra-light almost-nothing xc-inspired shoes like these? [more inside]
