Recently I have come to the conclusion that I am an extremely ignorant American. I know very little about American politics and world issues and politics. I've been living in my safe little American bubble for 18 years and I want to get out! I want to get educated but it's overwhelming..where should I start? Textbooks (but should I bother reading an American textbook?), websites, blogs, essays, CNN, BBC, Google? I also want to be aware of things people think Americans are usually ignorant of, and I would like to learn little things about cultures that aren't in guidebooks. I plan to return to playing World of Warcraft. However, I need to keep the game on an external hard disk, or at least temporarily transfer it from the computer's drive to that disk frequently. When I played before, the files (install files or the installed game) would not copy to the external drive, although I have never had any such problems with a non-WoW file. I am thinking of getting an install CD for the game, so that instead of transferring from the computer to the external drive, I can just erase and reinstall. Problem is, I would need to reinstall all patches each time I did that. Does anyone have any ideas about why the external disk doesn't like WoW or how I can get around this?

I just finished reading Hunting Eichmann and am wondering if any MeFites could recommend any other popular nonfiction books on Nazi Germany, Hitler, war criminals, etc. I don't do huge tomes well (400 pages or less!). The only other books I have read are MAUS and Explaining Hitler. Thanks for your input. So much out there...don't know where to begin. Probably the more well known the better as they may be available at my library.

Is there a better area to stay or a better way to arrange transportation to support this?

I'd like to ask a relatively simple question – what would happen if we switched of traffic lights when we didn't really need them? I'd like to know from an environmental aspect what effect turning off the nations traffic lights would have towards saving electricity and reducing emissions. From a social point of view could the nation's road users manage with such a change? And from a technical innovation view point – could it and should it happen and if so how?

Does anyone know a place in NYC or online where I can order a wall-sized map of the world. I have an image of something similar here. I want to purchase as a wedding gift for two dear friends. The one in the picture is French, which is fine, it can be in any language. But it would be large enough for a wall, and with a beautiful antique look to it. That said, the less expensive options are preferred. All advice and suggestions welcome and thank you in advance!
