The default scenario is, in a blank MS Word 2007 document, the footnote reference in the text is supertext, but is the same font size as whatever your normal text is. The footnote reference in the footer is point 10. They are different sizes, even though they are both the style called "footnote reference". They look different under "reveal formatting", but I don't understand reveal formatting. [more inside]
I create a lot of school-related Word documents in which I use the word "ed" (short for "education," as in "special ed.") When I do a spelling/grammar check, Word always flags this as a possible capitalization error - even though I've removed "Ed" from the dictionary and have added "ed." It's annoying, because I may use "ed" many times in a single document. Is there a way to get Word to accept uncapitalized "ed" as is, while still running a grammar check that includes checking for capitalization errors? I'm using Word 2007.

125 page document due in in two days - has been behaving fine up to now, but all of a sudden it is messing about with my header styles so when I generate the table of contents I have random sentences from elsewhere in the document. I have been through the text twice now - first time to change all the sentences that had changed style back to the normal style - but when I reopened document it just reverted back to how it was before. Second time, I used the remove formatting function and reapplied the right style, but it has just reverted back again. What am I doing wrong and how do I fix it?
I have a Word 2007 document. It has 2 sections. I want page numbering to start in section 2 at page 1. No page numbering in Section 1. Obviously I've done what I should do, ie clicked in section 2, set up page numbering to start at p 1. And it does. But section 1 gets page numbering too. Delete that and section 2's numbering goes too. Help! [more inside]

I have a Word 2007 document with a pie chart, and this document will be printed in black & white. I want to fill the pie chart pieces with patterns so they'll be easily differentiated in black & white, but I don't see the "pattern" option. In previous versions of Office it was there, but I can't find it in 2007. (By "pattern," I'm talking about dots, or criss-crossed lines, or a "brick wall" pattern, or diagonal lines, etc.) [more inside]

We're meant to do all of our University assignments with Harvard Referencing. Easy enough. However I've grown used to using Word's system of managing references and it does all the updating itself for any changes I make - has anyone got any ideas how to get Word 2007 (or 2003 / XP) to do the referencing? My Google-fu has failed me so far.
