Disable stupid MS Word 2007 warning

Microsoft Word 2007: how do I disable this annoying privacy warning? Every time I save a file it pops up a window saying "Privacy Warning: This document contains macros, ActiveX controls, ...." The file came from an older version of Word. I don't see any macros and the trick I saw on Google of saving in another Word file format didn't work.

Running under Windows XP.

How do I keep a particular tab in Word2007 from automatically disappearing? And other Word2007 and Excel 2007 questions inside. Really, I HATE Office 2007. It now takes me multiple steps to do what used to take one click of the mouse. Below are a list of items that I'm hoping folks have answers to.

1) Keeping a particular tab open in Word. Let's say that I want to change the font and change line spacing. I click the home tab, then change the font. Instead of the home tab remaining, it disappears, so I have to click the home tab again before I can change the line spacing. How to leave the tab visible until I click on the body of the document?

2) Permanently change style setting. Whenever I open a new Word document, I want a specific setting (e..g, specific font, size, header style, etc.) to be in effect. Currently, I have to save the setting I want as a "style" option, then click on it every time I open a new document.

3) In Excel 2007, how to single space my cell formatting? Some of my cells are text heavy, and I want them to appear single spaced. The default is double, and can't change it.

Simple Quiz Maker?

Can you help me create a Word test that I can email to potential employees (without them being able to cheat on it too easily)? And without purchasing new software? I need to test about 67 people on their Word skills -- and it would be much easier if I could email the test to them rather than have them take the test in my office.

What I'm envisioning is sending candidates a PDF of how I want their final product to look, along with a totally messed up Word document that they'd have about half an hour to fix.

Is there a way to do this just by looking at the document's history? Is there a way to make this happen without spending a few hundred dollars on a quiz license?

Me vs. Word template

How can I rotate a Word template? I downloaded a Word template to print to Avery 5164 stickers. The stickers are 4"x3.3", I want to print landscape with the stickers 3.3"x4".

Just changing the page setup to landscape doesn't change the margins or the template.

Is there a way to rotate a template 90 degrees, or do I have to build a new template?

How can I determine how many unique words and how many repetitions are in a text? I have a small translation contract and the client has different rates for repetitions and for unique words. How can I find this out? They are Word documents, I'm on a Mac using Word 2004. Is there a program I can download, or a web-based solution?

How could one change the colors of links in a Microsoft Word document? I'm using Office 2007, if it makes a difference. As it is, any link I insert is blue and when it's been clicked on it turns purple. Can I edit these colors like I could with CSS on an HTML document?

Secondly, is it possible for links pointing to files that don't exist to have a special color like red, like Wikipedia does when there's a link but no matching entry yet? All these files would be Word documents.

Formatting Differences in MS Word on Windows vs Mac

How consistent is MS Office between Windows and OSX? Will using MS Office on my Mac solve this formatting problem I'm having? I'm have a MacBook Pro running Leopard,and I've been using Open Office to write my papers. It's great. I love Open Office (and love that it's free). When I need to turn something in, I just save it in PDF format, e-mail it to myself, then go to a computer lab, check my e-mail, and print off the PDF document. Perfect.

The problem is that I have a professor who needs some documents turned in via e-mail, and they use MS Word. I can save an Open Office document as a Word file (.doc or .docx), and for plain text formatting that's fine, but as soon as an outline or numbered list is created, things look crazy. It seems fine when I save it in Open Office, and it's fine when I then open that document using Open Office, but if the document is opened with MS Word, the formatting is horrible.

I can buy the MS Office suite for Mac at school using my student discount (it's around $35 I think). If I install that, and use Word to create these documents, will they appear the same when my professor opens them using Word, on her Windows computer?

If there will still be differences then I'll skip the $35 and just keep going to the computer lab to tweak things.

If I save a document in MS Word on a Mac and send it to a person using MS Word on a PC, are there formatting differences?

Help me move email to word

How can one take a bunch of emails and easily move them in to a word document? What I would like to do is take a bunch of email correspondence (between myself and a friend) and move all the emails to a readable word document. I would say there are about 200 separate emails. Is there a way to do this that is less tedious than copy and pasting?

A friend and I are looking for a certain word... it would be related to loving something so much it makes you go weak. Both of us believe there's a word for this but we can't quite put our finger on it. It could possibly be used in this context: "Chocolate is my _____." The closest word we can come up with is: weakness.
But we're pretty sure there's another.

There's a possibility that the word actually isn't a noun. It might go along the lines of: swoon.

What did the Nazis call the French Resistance? I know they called the individual resisters "terrorists," but what word did they use to describe the resistance as a whole? (Insurgency, resistance, uprising, rebellion, etc.) This is research for a screenplay - I'm not looking for a discussion about modern parallels, or of what the morally correct word is in various situations. Also, if someone could give me the word in German that would be great! Please no guessing.

Looking for a universally compatible word processing program that can I download for free off the internet. I'm using Open Office on my computer, which I got for free. It works fine for me but sometimes when I send files to other people they're unable to open them. As I'm applying for academic jobs, this doesn't make me look very good, to say the least. What word processing program, can I get off the internet, for free, that will be universally compatible with any other computers to which I might send files? Thanks!

How can I get clean html from MS-word, to paste into Thunderbird? Sometimes, when I'm sending long emails, I like to compose in my word processor - MS-word (2003 on one machine, 2007 on another), and paste into my email client - Thunderbird.

But when I do, there are all sorts of little (and not so little) formatting hiccups. I gather the problem is mostly that Word uses all sorts of crazy non-standard stuff in its html output.

Is there a way to fix this problem? I way to make word produce cleaner HTML? A tool that will turn Word html into something friendlier? A word-paste-cleanup plugin for Thunderbird?

(And : I know I could compose with Open Office or Google Docs. But mostly I like Word, and would like to keep using it if I can...)

Global replace all in Word using the clipboard?

How can I (quickly) globally replace text in word with a footnote (or anything from my clipboard)? I have a document that is hundreds of pages long, and has certain phrases that are made repeatedly, and I need to make edits to those repeated phrases. In most cases, this is not a problem. I can get pretty far just by using "Replace All", typing the phrase I need to change in the first box, and the new text in the bottom.

But I'm running into problems when I get phrases with footnotes in them. I can find phrases with footnotes just fine using ^f, but you can't replace that way. The best solution I've got so far is to type a unique phrase in the replace window (like qqqq), and then manually search for each instance of the phrase and replace with a footnote copied from my clipboard. But this means I need to do this search about 80 times each time it comes up. Is there some way to do a global search and replace, where the replace uses whatever is in my clipboard?

How do I stop my TOC styles from reverting to their default each time I update the TOC?

MS Word 2003 Filter: Searching google and on-line books has failed. Help me figure out why the Table of Contents in my document is misbehaving. My productivity is completely shot this morning because of this! I'm building a document from scratch, and trying to do it the 'right' way. I am carefully creating the styles I will use in my document. Then, I will add the content.

I began by setting up all of the Heading Styles. Next, I modified the built-in TOC styles (levels 1 through 5) so that they look the way I want them to. Finally, I went to the Index and Tables dialogue box and under Options, I matched my modified TOC styles up with the custom Heading styles I had created - such that TOC 1 goes with Heading Style 1, etc.

Finally, I inserted the Table of Contents. It looked good, but I had forgotten to change the "Show Levels:" drop-down so that the Table of Contents would show 5 levels instead of the default, 3. I went back into the Index and Tables dialogue box and changed it to 5. When I went ahead and updated the Table of Contents, all my beautiful TOC styles reverted to their defaults. I changed them back. I updated the Table of Contents again. Again, the styles went back to their defaults.

I made sure to uncheck all of the "Update Automatically" boxes in my styles. So what the heck is going on?????????

Trying to print Word documents with a specific preset from the Finder. Impossible?

OS X (10.5) Printing difficulties: Trying to print Word documents with a specific preset from the Finder. Impossible? I hate clicking documents open to print and then having to close them. I have to print up about 20 word documents in a folder multiple times every week - those documents should be printed with a 4x4 layout - single sided. (n-up 4 in CUPs speak) - I'm switching from Windows and in windows I had two printers installed (actually the same printer) with different layout options, so all I had to do was make sure the default printer was the one with right layout options. However, on OS X presets seem to be ignored if you print from the finder [Finder |File |Print], it goes with the "Standard" preset no matter how I try it, from the automator, the terminal, applescript. If I open it directly in Word, the correct preset always shows up as the default preset.

Things I've tried:
I've located the PPD file and didn't see an option to set up the N-Up 4x4 as an option anywhere.

I've option clicked the print button with the correct preset.

I've tried switching the printer preset in the terminal.

I've tried using the automator, with the supplied word 2008 actions.

I've looked at the cups documentation, and see that there is an option for using the 4x4, I'm just not sure how I would go about setting that option for a specific printer instance, or how I would print to to that specific printer instance - any clues?

Looking to up my presentation skills in NYC

I'm looking for a job doing presentation graphics (in law firms, possibly financial firms); this is about 30% of my current job at a law firm. I'm one of very few "experts" at my firm which isn't very technologically advanced in this area, so I'm afraid that my skills won't cut it in the outside world. I need advice on how to upgrade my skills. I want to upgrade my skills so that I can show a better portfolio and talk about those skills with more confidence.

I'm pretty strong in all the Microsoft Office products and how they integrate, especially in Powerpoint and Visio. I also am quite skilled and experienced in Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.

Since we don't really use Powerpoint to its full potential at my current job, I want to learn more advanced skills, and I feel like I need to improve my Excel skills to integrate better with Powerpoint. From the job listings I have seen, I think I should learn Flash, but what else is essential for a presentations job?

I'm in NYC so if you have any recommendations for places to get the kind of training I need, I would love to hear them.

Hey all, Just a quick question, here. Currently I am trying to manage a number of blog-esque sites, i.e. MySpace, Face book, Word press, and of course Metafilter. I was wondering if anyone knew of programs to help maximize my productivity when updating these. For example, I often post new songs I have created. Is there any program that would allow me to post an update across all my pages from one central hub? How about managing my messages from these sites? Any way to manage those in my regular email, or is there a program that could unify these? Basically I'm wondering if there is some type of "command station" program to help manage multiple sites like this one. Thanks in advance for any help! Hope you all had a great weekend.

Creating a Table of Contents for Multiple Word Files

Microsoft Word and a table of contents across multiple files: my sister has to deliver her book as a series of Word files, one per chapter. In order to meet the house style (pdf), she's created a specific heading in Word to match their 'A' headings. She wants to generate a separate Table of Contents compiling all those headings into one linked ToC file. Is that possible?

How to make Quick Parts more intelligent in MS Word?

I want to automate a Word document for some sales drones. I'd love it if I could check for when a Quick Part field ends with an "s", and if so insert just an apostrophe as opposed to apostrophe then "s". But how? Here's the sitch: Sales need a template they can use that's been automated to within an inch of its life. So I've used Quick Parts for a field called [Company] like so:

If [Company]'s requirements...

They can edit one instance of the [Company] field and it auto-updates across the whole document. Which works great, right up until said [Company] name ends with an "s", eg:

If Ridge Services's requirements...

They send out a lot of these documents, and I don't trust them to reliably check every one for instances of "Ridge Services's" and correct them all (even though Word helpfully lets you know via its spelling error red underline).

So, is there any way to check what letter [Company] ends with, and if it ends with any letter other than "s", insert an apostrophe and then "s", but if [Company] ends with an "s", just insert an apostrophe?

And if so, how?

Oh, and it has to work across MS Word 2007 PC, and MS Word 2008 Mac. Ya know, just to complicate things...

[WordProcessingFilter] I need this document formatted a specific way. Bare with me as I try to explain. I don't want the the text beside the date to wrap under the numbers. If it must wrap, I want it to wrap under the first word of the line before it. I know I can do this with tables, but I kind of need to do this asap (I stupidly told the client that it would take me less than an hour). If I must do it with tables, is there a way to limit Microsoft Word's Find/Replace tool to say: replace ONLY first space in a paragraph with a tab character?

Is there another way to do it?

Help me hive mind!
