Wine Bistro in Las Vegas Near the Airport?

I ate at a great little restaurant in Las Vegas about 3 years ago that I'm trying to find while I'm here this week. These are the details I remember about it - it was near the airport, not attached to any hotel, specialized in wine, had a European bistro feel to it, had great food. I think it may have been in a strip mall but not positive. And I seem to remember it had numbers in the name, but again, not positive. I'm on a business trip and would love to find it, or something like it. I'm staying at South Point, so being easy to get to from here without having to deal with Strip traffic is a plus.

Corks and Cocoa? Booze and Brownies?

(Posting for a friend.) I am trying to name a local restaurant that will be known for its wine and its chocolate dishes. A friend of mine suggested "Corks & Cocoa." I like it, but would like to consider some other names. Any good restaurant name ideas would be greatly appreciated - and you'll be sure to get some gift certificates when we open if I like the name! Thank you!

Be my sommelier.

I'm having dinner at Cafe Atlantico in WDC later this (restaurant) week. What should I order? What kind of wine should I get?
The menu is here. Is it worth it to get the $65 (or actually $130 since there will be two of us) tasting menu, or just stick with the choices on the $35 (=$70) restaurant week menu? I'm leaning towards: the tuna, the duck, and the chocolate.

And the wine list is on the "to drink" tab here, but I think I'd rather bring in a bottle (not too expensive, say under $20) and pay the $20 corkage. What wine would you suggest with the tasting menu or with your recommendations on the rw menu? Red or white. Or a "signature cocktail"?

FWIW: No specific special occasion, just the infrequent splurge on fancy food and wine so I can keep up with the superficial chatter of people who make more money than I do.

What do I need to learn about wines to be a waitress at a nice restaurant?

What do I need to learn about wines to be a waitress at a nice restaurant? I have an interview with a Italian/European themed restaurant of the sort my family could never afford to even step into. This is the best job I could ever hope to get, but I need to do some homework on wines before my interview. I'm too young to have much expirience with alcohol (but I will be old enough to serve it in a restaurant.. very shorty) and I have almost no knowledge of wines other than the kind that comes in a box. I'm doing some Googling and browsing on Wikipedia, but is there anyone who has worked in the industry or knows a lot about wines that can point me in the right direction? Some names of wines I know have been served at this restaurant based on google searches: Vega Del Rio Crianza, Crios Torrontes, and Ornellaia. I don't have the money (and in any case, it's not legal) to do any tasting of these wines on my own.

Screw the glass, get a whole bottle!

Any seasoned servers/wine aficionados out there? I need to learn how to sell wine and describe it. Seeking more of a quick guide/anecdotes as a jumping off point rather than book recommendations. I just got a new job at the kind of restaurant where I'm expected to be able to recommend wine to customers and therefore sell quite a bit of it. I am by no means an expert and will be trained by the management, of course, but I figured I'd get some great colloquial advice from you guys and be ahead of the game.

So here's what I think I need: links to one-stop wine pairing guides (beyond white=chicken/fish, red=meat) and tips on actual table side selling-without-being-pushy. And maybe some related vocab that isn't terribly snotty sounding.

The wine list is varied as far as country origin and varietals and the menu is broadly Mediterranean (minus Italian).

Help us prepare for the fanciest dinner of our lives.

Help us prepare for the fanciest dinner of our lives. My boyfriend and I have reservations next week at one of the classiest restaurants in Portland, Genoa, where we'll be having a seven-course prix fixe meal. We're not rich, we just both love food and thought it would be a great way to mark a special occasion.

I grilled reservations guy on the phone for advice when I scheduled our dinner. Will they accomodate our special dietary needs? He says yes. What should we wear? He says business casual or nicer.

But there's a lot more I'm not sure about. How long should we expect our meal to take? Should we try not to finish everything on our plates, just to make sure there's room in our bellies for the rest of the courses? Or do seven-course meals come with smaller serving sizes? Do the same rules of tipping apply when you're spending $200-plus for dinner as when you're spending $20 (15-20%)? Are doggie bags completely taboo? Are there other etiquette considerations we should prepare for before we arrive?

There's also question of wine. The restaurant's web site lists Italian , American and French wines, with bottles ranging in price from around $21 all the way up to $400, and I am nervous about accidentally tripling our bill by ordering the wrong thing. We both love red wines, but are certainly not experts on vinology. Can anyone suggest an affordable bottle off this list?

Any other tips for enjoying the evening and feeling comfortable instead of outclassed?

wine wine wine

The restaurant I work at needs to change its wine list. What are some good wines that should be put on our menu, that are available in Ontario (that's in Canada, folks) and that are similarly priced? (note that the prices on the link shown are obviously marked up, so please take that into consideration, as well as being in Canadian dollars)

How much is a dinner for two at the French Laundry?

I'm considering making a pilgrimage to the French Laundry in January, and was hoping someone could give a me a realistic estimate of the total cost (food, wine, anything else?) for dinner for two. On the web page I've found the meal prices (I'm budgeting for the $150 tasting menu), but the big variable (I think) will be wine. Since neither my girlfriend nor I know much about wine, we'd want to take the sommelier's recommendations as much as possible, but how much is this likely to cost us? Most of my online research has told me that eating there is expensive (no shit) and that it's worth it, but my google fu has failed to find me any good estimates of the total cost to expect. For reference, blue thread here.
