How can I use the IR port on my Windows XP laptop to control my television?
Here's a real simple problem that's been annoying me since I switched to Windows XP. If I have a folder that's full of mp3 files, XP "intelligently" decides that it's a music folder and changes the "Arrange icons by" options from "name/type/size/modified" to "name/type/size/artist/album title/year/track number/duration". Importantly missing is MODIFIED! How do I tell XP to sort files by date modified if it insists on only letting me sort by the ID3 "year" value?

Working on a friend's Win XP box tomorrow. Seems that, on a whim, it decided to revert to the original factory setup and seemingly disposed of the profiles, settings, and other installed programs (though on My Computer properties it still seems to be registered to the owner). I haven't encountered this prob before, but they have been real pros (sarcasm) about maintaining their install and protecting against malware. Ideas? Thanks in advance!

When I use BitTorrent on XP SP2, Windows "limits the number of concurrent, incomplete outbound TCP connection attempts" and (I think) slows me down, because they might be coming from a "malicious program". How can I stop it doing that and make it treat me like a grown-up? Is it in the registry somewhere?

Free is best, since I'm not spending any money, but if you know of any good demo stuff I should install so he could try, that's fine too.

Plug in each drive separately, detach the array, or re-mirror and hope for the best?
Some of my MS Word docs (Microsoft Word 2003, Windows XP) have been through many hands and have many styles defined. Lots of these styles are garbage. Other than doing it manually (stepping through all of the styles one by one, checking whether each style is in use, and then deleting the styles I don't need), is there a way to remove all styles that are not used in a document?

Why has my Firefox slowed down? It started a few day ago. Sometimes it takes several minutes for a page to load. Some only partially load, then stop. Some don't load at all. Not every page is this way, but I'd say about 20% suffer from one of these problems. IE is zipping right along though. I did a virus check, ran Spy-bot and Ad-Aware and cleaned up my registry. Yet the problem persists. Oh, I'm running 1.0 and XP Pro.
