I want to connect from a Mac OS X machine to a Windows XP running XAMPP (Apache, MySQL, PHP), in order to use an application running on the Windows machine.
At the same time, I want to have the Mac OS X allowing Internet browsing, while Windows should be isolated from the Internet.
Can it be done in some way, or can you suggest a possible setup close to that purpose?

For the past month or so, my Windows XP SP3 gives me the message "The current user account is not recognised. Restart the computer and then open User Accounts." whenever I try to open User Accounts. The problem is
not resolved by restarting, but is temporarily eliminated by logging off and logging back in. It reappears on restart. Why is this happening?

My installation of Windows XP Pro (SP3) seems to have developed intermittent amnesia. I've noticed a couple of times in the past week that files which I edited and saved under new names just -- disappeared. (Details inside). Today, after restarting the machine, I found my desktop wallpaper and Quick Launch icons had reverted to what I had several months ago, and my Recent Documents lists in MS and Adobe products was showing material from July 2011 and earlier. Plus, my iTunes library had suddenly been unable to find about 10% of my songs, although I have been able to manually locate them and make iTunes recognize a few again. These "missing" songs are both old and new: I don't see any pattern in time re what has gone missing. I'm assuming the worst -- XP death throes in progress! -- and am updating my data backups NOW. All my applications seem fine so far: I'm not missing anything that was recently installed. No other data seems to be actually missing. While I back up, is there anything else I should investigate or hypothesize?

I have a small simple 16 bit windows application that I need access to from a couple dozen Windows 7 64 bit computers. Unfortunately we lost some of the source code so recompiling it is not in the cards any time soon.
Is there a way I can host this app on something like Amazon AWS and give all these users access to run the app via a browser or some other method?
Installing VM lite or the windows virtual pc is not an option unfortunately. These users would need access to this program concurrently. The VMWare solutions are far too expensive and the VMLite product that might help we won't be out for some time.
Thank you for reading my post. Have a great one.

How can I use my external hard disk drive to regularly backup my Windows XP laptop in as simple a manner as possible? Ideally, I would want something that works like Time Machine on the Mac—I would really like something I can set and forget. Free solutions are best, obviously, but I'm willing to buy software for this.

A Dell PC was originally equipped with Windows ME. Somebody later installed, instead, an unauthorized copy of XP. The machine was given to me, and I legitimated the XP install by paying Microsoft for a "Genuine Advantage Kit." Will Microsoft let me use that kit's CD to install XP on a different machine (perhaps an Apple) if I get rid of the first machine? Thanks.

WindowsXP Filter: I've noticed, on more than one machine, that XP has a tendency to crash when you view thumbnails in "open file" dialog boxes, especially, of course, if the folder you are viewing has a lot of image files in it. It is as if XP has to rebuild the thumbnails every time, rather than cacheing them. I've had this issue on more than one machine and using more than one application (most recently, Palm Desktop, while trying to add some photos to my wife's Palm). It seems an XP problem, not an app or machine problem.
