Can our MRI machine be converted to Windows XP?

Does anyone have any experience with a Philips Marconi Eclipse 1.5 MRI scanner? Can it be run from a Windows-based machine? Presently, our Philips Marconi Eclipse 1.5 MRI scanner is operated using a workstation running Red Hat Linux, and VIA 2.0 Scan Suite software.

The lack of compatibilty with other essential sofwares has become burdensome. The hoops which must be jumped through have become detrimental to routine work patterns, and have doubled related ordinary workloads.

Understanding the "failings and limitations" [sic] of XP, what we want to do now is switch to a Windows XP system, with which the rest of the 20 machines at our office and ALL of our providers are currently using.

Suggestions? Advisements? Recommendations?

Organizing my music. All automatically.

I've never really bought albums/CDs and ripped them. Atleast not all of them, I probably have like 15-20 albums, but that's it.

The major part of my music collection happens to come from the Napster times. Where only tracks would be downloaded, which have little or no filename according to convention.

So, I have tracks like "12-Thievery Corp-Fedime's Flight.mp3". I'd like to see this track as "Thievery Corporation - Fedime's Flight.mp3" Is there any simple to use software, that will scan all the music I have in, for example, one drive (Drive F:). Look it up on CDDB/FreeDB/Amazon/Yahoo/etc, get the real information, rename the file, and update the artist/track tags and move it to a clean, new folder? All without too much human intervention?

I've searched on here, and I've tried numerous taggers, and so far MB Tagger worked well. But 60% of my collection comes up as "unidentified". It did the renaming/moving/updating tags thing really well. But too bad, it doesn't have good, correct info for 60% of my music.

Has anyone ever accomplished this, without spending too much time on it personally?

Designing printed forms on a budget in a WinXP environment

DesigningPrintedFormsOnABudgetFilter: I'd like to design some forms to be printed to standard laser printer paper to assist capturing information taken from telephone calls at work (WinXP SP2 environment). I realize you can spend a lot of money setting up an appropriate environment for high-quality design of printed forms, but this is something I'm doing in my own time to increase my efficiency and I don't have any money to put towards buying software like Adobe Illustrator and In-Design etc.

So, I'm wondering what the designing-forms-on-a-budget-for-printing savvy MeFites would recommend? For want of any other direction, I've designed a basic form in the latest version of Inkscape. This went reasonably well, and I'm happy with the results. However, the destination format has to be something I can open and print at work.

We have a very restrictive Standard Operating Environment, so this would be limited to MS Publisher 2003, MS Word 2003 or PDF. I'm not aware of any app that we have that, for example, would open and print SVG format files in a double-sided format that would accomodate aligning the pages on each side, etc.

I've tried 'printing' from Inkscape to PDF using the free PDFCreator printer driver, but the printed result is very blurry.

So, I'm wondering if any MeFites have advice on how I can design forms at home (any WinXP software is fine, as long as it's free or very cheap) to go into a suitable format (preferrably PDF) for printing at work?

64 bit Windows?

64 bit Windows: What works? What's not yet supported? In short - what do I need to know before buying? Hey all - replacing my two-year old laptop, and considering an AMD 64 processor-based system as a replacement. Primarily for work - MS Office stuff, graphics, and the occasional time-wasting game. I've heard that some devices aren't well-supported (wireless cards and the like), and have had questions about software (some antivirus software apparently is a no-go), so I figured I'd ask the MeFi crowd about personal experiences. Anyone else running 64-bit Windows? Specific issues I should be aware of before buying a computer running the same?

Laptop Clean XP Install:
1] My (on board?) sound card is unrecognised. How do I find out what drivers to use?

2] What programs do you really think I need? I already have VNC, VLC, Firefox, Thunderbird and AVG installed. What else should I add? (Freeware/OS appriciated but not needed.) VNC = Remote access program
VLC = DVD player type thing
AVG = AntiVirus

Win XP individual program volume control?

Is there something I can get for Win XP that can control the volume of each program individually? I'd like Windows Media Player to be loud (for those videos that have unexplained quiet sound) and Trillian and system beeps and the like to be barely audible. Is this possible?

Freeware Online Meeting Tool

Can anyone recommend a good webmeeting software for webcam-conferencing? There's tons of them out there, but I'd like a freeware one that's capable of handling more than two users at the same time, point-to-point (not via some server, due to lagging issues). iVisit is great, but will only accept two users in freeware version. As an extra challenge, it needs to be compatible with Linux and XP. Go geeks, go!

How can my woman and I access an application on the other person's desktop / profile in WinXP?

My woman and I use the same WinXP computer with different profiles (both running as Admins). How can we access an application that's running on the other's desktop? (More inside) I find that if she logs on first in the morning, the firewall (the free Sybase one) shows up on her desktop, but not on mine. If, later, on my own desktop, I run a networked application that the firewall is unfamiliar with, it simply won't work; if I haven't had my coffee yet, I won't be able to figure out why.

This isn't a firewall question — She'd also like to be able to skip They Might Be Giants songs when Foobar2000 is running from my desktop.

(Is this also a problem on other OSs? 'Cause it seems like it would be.)
