Help this Unix guy understand Windows domains, security and file sharing. I'm a software tester who's mostly worked with unix systems and unix file systems but now I've got to develop and execute a test plan for file sharing between Windows clients and samba servers running within Windows domains of various configurations. What are some good relatively quick learning resources that can get me up to speed?

I have a bunch of thin, old, south- & west-facing windows that need energy-efficiency treatment. I got estimates for both solar film and solar screens, and the cost seems pretty comparable, although I may be able to get the screens a bit cheaper. What's my best option, bang-for-the-buck-wise? And is direct sunlight-blocking actually the most important factor, or does heat leak in/out through thin windows regardless of the light striking them?

I would like to display Karaoke lyrics over a
live webcam feed. This means I might need a skype (or equivalent) plugin that plays the music & lyrics,
or find some karaoke software with the ability to display lyrics over a transparent background. (That is, to have windowless karaoke display, and run the webcam feed behind it. )
All the software (I can find) to play
.CDG (karaoke lyric standard) files forces them to be played with an image background, or over a video file.

I might be about to buy a house with a large octagonal deck. 6 of the 8 sides are open to the elements. What kind of large windows could I put on it so that I could make it a cosy space in the cold months, but be able to open it up to the maximum extent possible in the warm months? I am having real trouble recording presentations on my Windows Vista laptop. I have this killer presentation on Open Office Impress and have CamStudio and Audacity. But, Audacity keeps crashing and I can't get CamStudio to record the entire screen. When I set "Full Screen" it just records a corner of it. I am wracking my brain trying to figure out a way to make this presentation work. I also have a Flip Mino and a slideshare account but I don't want to put the presentation online as its a course audition and very rough. Suggestions???
