Remote file management

I've been tasked to find a solution for the following: We make software for different kinds of machines. The machines are all controlled from Windows PCs connected to each machine individually. Every developer who has to test something copies their newly built software on a flash drive, walks out to the lab, makes a backup of what was running on the PC connected to that particular machine, puts in their own software, runs the tests, and in the end copies everything back like it was before. How to keep a new computer from getting bogged down over time

How can I set up a Windows 7 PC to be clean and stay clean? I don't want file bits and temporary files to clog it up, I don't want a million image files the size of a dot. Can I make a Belkin USB Cable Act Like A Direct Crossover Cable?

I bought a Belkin Easy Transfer USB Cable for Windows 7 thinking it would act much like a direct crossover cable connection would. Instead, it only seems to let me transfer the files and folders needed to set up your old Windows profile on a new copy of Windows, rather than giving me access to all files, folders and partitions, which is what I need. Is there a hack to get this cable to do what I want it to do?

How do I stop windows from taking over my portable hard drive

I have a portable usb hard drive that I use for keeping all my documents / backups on. Windows seems to love using this drive for everything, for example I am installing IE7 from windows update, and it is using the drive to hold all the temporary files during the install. Because of this the drive is always in use and I can never eject it. [more inside]

Will a .BAT file move these files for me?

I need to move thousands of files (01_preview.jpg, 02_preview.jpg, 03_preview.jpg, etc.) into matching (pre-existing) folders whose names are basically the same as the filenames (folder names are 01, 02, 03, etc.) I'm on a Windows box. Windows XP search improvement: suggestions for how to use the built-in search more efficiently, or for search programs to replace it

I need a search tool replacement for the built-in windows XP search, or suggestions for it. I have a lot of files on different drives in different directories (C:\AA F:\BB ...) and I when I want to find a specific file that I know is in one of those directories, I have to select and search each directory one at a time. (searching all folders on all drives would take too long.) Anyway to make this quicker?
