My Wi-Fi is slow, and it seems to be the fault of the router. How can I make it faster? Barring that, is there a better router I could buy? Details inside.

I'm moving house next weekend and new place does not have WiFi. It's a six month lease and I'll probably be moving out of the country after that. I use a lot of internet (streaming music, downloading podcasts, films, sending large files, using cloud services, etc.) and so I need something unlimited or pretty near it. Everything I'm seeing online so far is either too much £ for too little internet (£20 for 2GB per month, seriously??) or too much commitment (12-18 month contracts for phone, broadband and TV). I only need internet. What are my options, if any? Thanks!

I'm having problems with my home wifi network. I'm seeing sporadic periods (a couple of hours a day) where websites load slowly, partially, or not at all. How can I diagnose this problem? Are there router settings to try setting differently? Should I just get a new router?

Hi,
I am trying to set up a surplus router as a NAS and torrent appliance, to integrate into an existing network. The setup will use two routers, one to provide network and internet to everyone, the other will use TomatoUSB and will be dedicated to torrenting.

We have two offices, front (sales) and back (paperwork) and we have our "main" router in the front, which serves the front desk computers, and then from the router we have run Ethernet to the back office into a hub which then serves a bunch of PCs, a printer, and, we would like, a Wi-Fi router (or rather a router with Wi-Fi). The purpose of the Wi-Fi router connected to the hub is only to allow Wi-Fi devices access to the network. Unfortunately, for some reason, when the router is connected to the hub, all the other PCs also connected to the hub pull their IPs from the Wi-Fi router's DHCP / use it as gateway instead of the "main router" in the front office. Why is this?

Other computers have not had any problems connecting to the router and I have never had any problems connecting with other routers. I can connect using an ethernet cord. Can you help?

Is there anything I can do to improve wi-fi connectivity in a small area (three rooms) when dealing with a large number of other signals? I'm in a high-rise apartment building in a city; after letting inSSIDer run for a while, it shows that I'm competing with 125 other access points. My signal is okay in the first room, fair in the second room, and unusable in the third room. I'm using DD-WRT -- are there any settings I can tweak that might help?

I'm stumped by what on the face of it should be a pretty simple problem with a ADSL router (Thomson ST585 v6.) The connection is flawless when I plug into the router with an ethernet cable, but a wifi connection will drop out if I move further than a metre away from the router. This is true regardless of where I place the router in the house. I'm thinking a physical fault in the device. Anyone have a second guess?

I have a Linksys WRT110 router. Although it has some access controls, I find them difficult to use and counterintuitive, and I say this as someone who has been using computers since the days of the TRS-80.
Is there a router out there that will let me limit access times by MAC address of different devices, either by a daily quota or a cutoff time?
