Let's Twist Again!

Help me put together a wedding playlist that will get people dancing! My friend has asked me to help her put together a wedding playlist (in leui of a DJ). The reception music will be mostly old music in the Sinatra vein. They don't want music that is too modern. I've got that part more than covered, but we need to get a few fast songs in there too, to get people out on the floor. I've considered some swing, and I'm going to put in "Shout" and the Twist, but that's as modern as it will go. Help me think of some other old songs that will get young people up and dancing!

Music suggestions (a pop song?) for a wedding recessional, please!

I'm getting married in 3 weeks (exciting!) and my fiance and I are looking for a cute (indie?) pop song that can be played by a string quartet as we walk back down the aisle together. We want it to be upbeat - so far we've been considering Oasis "Wonderwall", some Beatles tunes - "All you need is love"?, and maybe even our first dance song, Peter Bjorn and John's "Paris 2004" but are not sure about repeating it. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks for your help!

Another Wedding Music Question ... Groom's life song for video montage

I'm looking for a good, energetic song for the "Groom's Life" portion of a wedding video. A friend of mine is building a video montage for another friend's wedding.

The Songs on the Video So Far ...

Bride: Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison
Friends: You've Got a Friend in Me - Randy Newman
Couple: Everything - Michael Buble

But I am stumped on the Groom's song. The video is his life in photos, childhood to present. I'm looking for a song that isn't too heavy to scare the grandparents, nor too soft to put everyone to sleep. So i'm asking if you could recommend a good "man" song for me! Thanks in advance.

wedding ceremony music for a soprano

What wedding songs (ceremony, not reception) would music lovers here suggest to be sung by a skilled, classically trained soprano accompanied by a not as skilled, works-for-a-small-church pianist? I am getting married this August we are lucky enough to be good friends of a recent graduate of Indiana University's music school. She has an excellent voice and can sing just about anything.

The pianist, on the other hand, is used to your regular Sunday church hymns. She can probably play anything simple if we give her plenty of time to practice, but simpler is better.

I wile away my hours listening to Brian Eno, Radiohead, Godspeed! You Black Emperor and various other things that don't lend themselves at all to a wedding. My lovely fiancee listens to a lot of the same stuff, plus country music. And I hate just about anything that sounds twangy orr like popular country music.

So we are at a loss. From what I have gathered from occasional listenign to A Prairie Home Companion, something more classically ballad sounding from the last half of the 19th century would be peachy keen in my book. That's just one vague idea, though, to us anything is fair game and worth a listen. Hymns are fair game, but I'm not particularly fond of them.

Julie is interested in something that "has sincere lyrics about love."

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Limos and music in Boston?

We've got a couple last details to work out for our wedding in May in Boston. What we really need is a limo and someone to play classical guitar for our ceremony. Finding either of these isn't hard, what we really want is recommendations to try to narrow down the field to ones that people have had good experiences with.

Standards and pop songs for wedding reception

Yet another wedding music question: my sister has asked me to help her out by compiling a list of "standards and pop songs" for the DJ to play at her wedding. Because my taste in music is stuck in the Depeche Mode/New Order/The Cure era, I have no idea how to compile this list. I've read other wedding music questions and none of the answers seemed to address my specific needs. I need suggestions for "rat pack-type standards" (does not need to be original versions, covers of standards will be great, too) and "pop" songs.

A bit about my sister, she's 36 and likes alternative and college-type music. I'm not sure if there is anything in that genre that might be typical/appropriate music to play at a wedding. As you can see, I need some guidance.

I know other posts have requested "fun" songs and people have suggested things like Love Stinks, etc. Unfortunately, my sister has absolutely NO sense of humor whatsoever, so jokey songs probably aren't going to work.

Thanks in advance for the help. I'm clueless about standards and when I think of dj-friendly pop songs, I think of songs like Celebrate, Breakout and I've Had the Time of my Life (yeah, it's been a while since I've been to a wedding), and I don't think anyone wants to hear songs like that.
