I designed this website on my Mac. The problem is that it looks slightly different on the PC (or Windows in VMWare) and my skills aren't advanced enough to figure out this problem on my own. More inside. [more inside]

I am looking for real-life documents surrounding the development of a website. My organization is quite inexperienced in building a website from scratch and we are looking for some documents to get us started. Can anyone point us to some actual specifications, wireframes, test scripts, and project plans for website design and development?

I am interested in gaining the skills needed to build great looking websites, so I could eventually design them on a freelance basis, and on a more short-term basis, incorporate them into my grad school work (I am about to start an MA in Communications/Cultural studies, hopefully focusing on media ownership and the emergence of new media) and professional work eventually. My academic background is in social sciences and visual arts (drawing).

Anyone know a good, easy RateMe/ Hot or Not script? Ideally I'd like a free script but I'm willing to pay for a well done script. PHP or ASP.

Can anyone suggest a book, website, etc. that describes the process of breaking a problem down in order to write a program. I have struggled for far too long trying to figure out how to write a program from scratch only to be stumped by the logic involved.
This question, I think, is outside of a specific language or philosophy (Java, OOP, et al.). It's just something I haven't been able to get my head around.
