What's the right software to maintain and display a calendar of relatively infrequent future events, as well as blog-like news postings? I maintain a website for specialists in my field of mathematics, and one section consists of announcements for upcoming and recent conferences. Another is for news announcements: a basic blog-style list of entries. Both are currently run by our 7-year-old Movable Type installation, in combination with a good bit of chewing gum and baling twine. I'd like to redesign the whole schmear, including the back end. Is wordpress (plus more gum and twine) the right solution? Is there some other system that makes more sense? [more inside]

I have a website and blog I created with iweb on my mac. However, I cannot figure out how to put pictures in my blog posts- besides the one that there is already a spot for. So far I have added pictures by putting them on the actual page, behind the text box, but then they aren't visible in the RSS feed. How do I do this?

I have an idea for a language-learning website which would take some time to set up. But while I'm doing that, I have thought about setting up a part of the future website - say a blog - and running it independently, hopefully to build up some traffic for a while before incorporating it into the full launch later, when it comes. I'm going to start a site to petition a board to keep a local public official in office. I want the site to include facts about why he should stick around and links (obviously) this stuff can be done easily with Wordpress (as we learned yesterday), i'm guessing. Domain mapping to a TypePad blog. For the past 10 days, I have desperately been trying to map a domain name to my TypePad blog. Every solution offered to me by either TypePad or my registrar seems to undo something else. So I've finally switched isps, and have moved my blog to the new address...Is there any easy way to let everyone who has me on their bookmark list know? I don't know who or how many have me linked, for the most part. (Google shows my message about moving as the first link for "amberglow" so maybe i should just let everyone find me? The old blog url is dead already.) I'd been using sitemeter and can email each referrer individually but that's a pain, and won't catch everyone. Any suggestions?
