I want to make a Web page that's basically just a bunch of evenly-sized square tiles which pulls specific album covers (from Amazon or Discogs or...) using some kind of input, whether it's drag-and-drop or entering a source URL or whatever. Is this a thing? [more inside]
Hi all. I love the look of this wordpress site. https://letsqueerthingsup.com What version/template of wordpress have they used? And/Or what is a very similar template I could use? For future reference, how could I work this out myself?
I'm tasked to collect the different (academic) research topics on security and privacy of our group and commission someone from communications to help with making some graphical representation for a website. What should that look like? What symbolizes computer security/privacy/safety? I'd like to avoid clichés like padlocks or keyboards with the return key re-labeled, while retaining a mental association.
If you are a professional artist and have a web site, I’d like your insight. [more inside]
After 20 years, the website, despite looking comically outdated, still works with today's browsers! How did they do this - is it really the same website? If someone could get a Windows 95 or Mac OS 7 computer online today, would it still display in Netscape?
Greetings MeFi, I come from old-days when re-directing web-pages and domains was done via one line of code. Now I am hearing this is best done by updating (A) record within DNS. However, I want the Domain to re-direct to a page within another domain, not root-domain itself. My confusion lies with this. The domain I wish to re-direct is not going to another root domain name, but rather --- a product page on that domain. So I don't want Domain 1 to simply re-direct to Domain 2. A tech-lead told me this is how re-direction is done but I am 99.9% still sure that DNS (A) record is simply for DOMAIN to DOMAIN, versus Domain re-direct to a page within another domain. Thanks for your help and tips! Much appreciated.
I have a wordpress website (link). After fiddling with the current theme (Edin) for a while, I'm starting to think it's not what I'm looking for. I'd like some advice on other themes that might work to present blog posts and static pages. [more inside]
Inspired by the recent unveiling of the new MOMA exhibition archive, I was hoping you could share with us some brilliant examples of institutions showing off their history and heritage in new and interesting ways? [more inside]
Hey all, I used to do a lot of web dev. I don't anymore (Hooray!) and I like to keep it that way. However, my new gig requires me to keep a pretty active portfolio. I've been using Squarespace for a year or two but I find the "template" system to be super cumbersome and unwieldy. What's the state of the art in the drag 'n drop, no-admin-necessary website (Wix et. al.)?. More criteria inside. [more inside]
I've been considering offering some sort of brochure-website service for small local companies for years. It's all come to a bit of a head with someone actually approaching me and requesting that I do this for them, so I guess the time is now! I have an idea of how I want to do this, but not what I want to charge. Sanity check my idea and help me price it inside. [more inside]
n00b question coming up. I love everything about the layout of this page for making long lists of topical reading manageable on the eye. I really want to replicate it to keep track of my own reading. But how? [more inside]
tl;dr - Which platform or language will provide organic SEO and allow me to create modern and beautiful websites? By "organic" I mean, I don't want to do SEO work after the site is built. I want to follow best practices while creating the URLs, tags, product description content, layout, etc. [more inside]
I'm setting up a website for my freelance consultancy. What infrastructure should I use? [more inside]
I am helping redesign a website. We will be moving it to a WordPress platform. The site needs some kind of simple shopping cart system for selling real world goods. What are the best options, both for cost as well as ease of use? [more inside]
I am looking for recommendations for websites/ blogs that feature photo-heavy articles on classic and vintage automobiles. I already follow Petrolicious. I wouldn't mind something that skews a little more American muscle from the 80's and prior, but any and all recommendations from any genre are welcome.
I have a web page for my music store and I get the normal google and forum site referrals, but I also get a bunch from Russia ,dozens of them and they are really random and have nothing to do with music. Often it is some sort of dating ,or information site of questionable value, often sex related. Why is this happening? [more inside]
I need to put together some kind of document outlining how my smallish company would like our new website to be laid out. [more inside]
There was once a website called something like "You Look Nice Today" that had fake first-world-problem entries for every day, along the lines of "Happy Left Your ID at the Overpriced Bar Day," followed by little second-person ficlets that may or may not have related to the day. Do you remember what this website was actually called, and do you have a link to it (or to its archive if it's defunct)?
Can I set up this website myself or do I need to call in the professionals? [more inside]
Is there a way to have money go directly to a third-party supplier when selling their goods online? [more inside]
Using Google Analytics, I've managed to set up page A and page B to do some A/B testing. So far, so good. My sticking point: What I'd like to measure is which page sees more users clicking through to an external site. I can't figure out how to do this. [more inside]
Hi, I need to purchase some (cheap?) hosting for a small portfolio site for my camgirl/webcam model persona. I also need to host photos for my profiles on chat/clips sites. Is there a simple, easy, not shady, not expensive company you'd particularly recommend that is fine with adult content? [more inside]
I suck at correspondence, and would like to pay another human to draft the occasional very brief email message for me-- standard thank-yous, requests, friend check-ins, etc. (I don't need a full-on virtual assistant; just the occasional $5, 5-minute task). Is there an established gig website that handles this sort of custom short content request? How else could I go about tracking down someone to provide this service? [more inside]
My question is two part: 1) the problem I am currently having with Wordpress site and 2) a larger question around what exactly is the most cost effective way to use Wordpress to create a professional website. [more inside]

Is there a news website that focuses on news most people can use right now? No Kardashians, but also no lost girls, pets, or polar bears? Focusing on the top ten things that statistically kill people, and no mentions of Ebola or Zika? Focusing on best practices for managing your checkbook, and no mentions of Brexit or Grexit or deficit reform? Focusing on ways to deal with depression and substance abuse, while ignoring Sasquatch and the latest crazy dashcam footage from Russia? [more inside]
I am in the US and have never traveled to India. Today, websites started acting as though I am in India (e.g., the Google website had a popup asking if I want to change my default search to google.in, and another shopping website showed prices in rupees). Why is this happening? Is my ISP (comcast) giving me an IP address that is being interpreted by websites as being in India? Or should I be worried about a virus or malware that is making my computer act as though it is in India?
I am pastor of a church that does many weddings each year. For years, we've provided couples a CD with 20 brief samples of classical/sacred music recorded by our church organist. This allows the couple to easily select music for every part of their ceremony, but I think it might be easier and cheaper to just post these online. Can you guide me in posting 20 or so samples of 1 minute or less on our website so we avoid the cost of copying CDs? [more inside]

If Gmail detects that you've previously sent the same text in another email, it turns the text purple and sometimes cuts it off with an ellipse as if it's an older threaded message. The problem is that I send a lot of similar emails to different people. I tailor them to the person, but that one paragraph that I copy pasted from an old email will still turn up purple and possibly be cut off with my signature. [more inside]
This site is for a very small niche manufacturing company, so not a lot of competition. Switched hosting from a small private compnay to Siteground and relaunched fresh new updated version of the old site. Previous to the switch - all relevant keyword searches returned this website within the top 5-10. Google image searches resulted in tons of images for this site. Now nothing is returned with any of the searches. At all. Installed SEO plugin, followed all suggestions found on the internet, nothing has helped. Please - any advice is greatly appreciated!

For my business website, I'm building an online referral program (refer a friend? you get $20 credit and they get 25% off their first order sort of thing). I've found exactly what I want but I am lost in the wilds of Form apps online. Here is what I want to re-create. I'm not a coder but understand basic HTML. I just want to know what app I need to use to build this form on my site. using WIX here. Recreating the text box whose contents can be button-shared via email + Facebook are key for me.
I'm looking for websites that have an autoplaying, looping background video of a landscape on the front page, color or black and white both OK. I'm trying to work out the options with a website like this with a client and we are in search of additional examples. Thanks!
I'd like to start a blog to provide links each day to informative writing and videos about race and racism. I'd like a good name for it and ideas for theme days, like Wednesdays focused on White fragility. Straightforward and cute names both accepted (and opinions on which one is better). [more inside]

One of my new year resolutions is to set up a website I've been saying I want to set up for ages. The problem: the last time I set up a website, CSS was in its infancy and I hand-coded static HTML files. I know what I want the thing to do, and I've tried doing my research, but all the various ways of getting there are doing my head in, so I'm looking for recommendations. Please explain things like I'm an idiot, because this is absolutely making me feel like one. [more inside]
I'd like an online calorie diary that is simple, let's me just add the calorie numbers that I already know for a meal instead of making me search for each item. And then keep track of how I am meeting pre-determined goals. [more inside]
I'd like to put in a bit more thought present-wise this year for my friends and family, and have been scouring the net for a site that lets you personalize gifts with custom-made images (memes, cats, artwork, etc). I've found a few, but there's not many reviews so I'm not sure which are reputable. Does anyone have some gift-personalization sites that they could recommend? I'd also love to learn of any sites that personalize unique gifts other than the usual coffee mugs and t-shirts.
There are plenty of tools to help someone build and customize a website without needing to know coding; Wix, Serif, Network Solutions and Go Daddy website builders. Likewise, are there similar tools to help someone build and easily customize mobile apps without knowing code? If so, what and where are they?
I'm looking to redesign my personal research site and I'm thinking to use a blogging platform such as WordPress; however, I can't seem to find any good, clean and modern templates. In particular, I would like to add sections for my publications, recent news, scripts I have written, and my upcoming talks / presentations. Does anyone have suggestions for a robust platform and any themes that I could use for the site? Thanks!
I have a collection of 50-100 images. I want to display them on a very basic webpage in which two random images are displayed side by side each time the page is loaded. Is there any free (or paid, I guess) website builder that could do this very easily? Or, do you have a suggestion for some very basic way for me to build it myself? I have little to no programming skill but used to muddle through some html back in the day.
Do you have a favorite resource, tutorial, or FAQ that could get me started as I learn more about creating and managing accessible websites? [more inside]
So, I'm trying to pay the filing fees online that I never got around to. The personal tax account I made, my business tax ID number is attached to as well, HOWEVER, it's not indicating that I owe anything. Now that I've gotten a new domain (thanks guys) I want to modernize and streamline my website. I basically want a single page with ' click to expand' photos that looks good on a tablet. Think a nice restaurant website. I have no idea how to do this, my incredibly creaky HTML skills are at least 15 years out of date, and template / design for you sites like Squarespace all want a hosting bundle package. I just want something drop-dead simple that will export an index.htm file at the end. Does this program/service exist? [more inside]
In your opinion, what's the best platform out there to develop a website for my photography business? I'd like it to be mostly WYSIWYG, and I want to showcase example images so prospective clients can see my work. The images should be the focal point, but I obviously also need to include contact details, social links, etc. Thanks! rs
