I'm a web developer who has to handle a couple of my clients websites. Mostly small, static sites without much traffic, but a couple of Ruby on Rails websites too.
I don't particularly want to get a full-on reseller account as my clients don't really need to access their control panels and be billed through a separate system etc. At the moment I'm just using a decent hosting account with all of the sites running in their own domains.
I'd like to know what reseller tools you guys use to help you keep track of your various websites / monitor their progress and uptime / bill your clients for the hosting?

I will soon be distributing a bunch of large scientific and research datasets, all entirely legal for redistribution, many as large as a few gigabytes. Bittorrent is the best solution for this. Many respectable webhosting sites don't allow Bittorrent trackers; too many of those that do seem fly-by-night. I have a budget for this and want something respectable and reliable. Recommendations? What's a good free, semi-anonymous Web hosting service that isn't quick to take down content? I want to post some satirical artwork I created, but not get canned because of some overreactive corporate legal department. I've heard Dutch sites are good for this. Any thoughts? And does Google do a good job indexing free servers?

I'm asking for advice on which web applications you would recommend to a person wanting to start their own web-page. I am new to web-page design and want to get up and running on a simple web-page relatively quickly and easily. I'm not afraid of trying to create some of my own design as I know a little HTML and the bare basics of web design - CSS etc -- it's just I haven't used it in real life yet. My e-mail provider (runbox) provides free web-site hosting and I needed to buy a domain name which I did. I want to start my own web page for personal use on items such as pictures, surveys or polls, blogs, discussions etc. My domain provider uses the following applications and I'm asking for advice on which applications a new user, relatively green on the tech side, should use. See below for the list of supplied web applications (if that is what you call them). [more inside]

I need an easy (free or very cheap) way to make and host websites. I've been using blogger since it is free and easy, but I'd ideally like more of a website format, rather than a blog format (no comments, and being able to keep my main messages right at the top). Any advice appreciated. [more inside]

I am completely clueless about web hosting. Let's say I wanted to start a web business. And let's say that web business relied on a variety of different web technologies. At this point, I am technologically agnostic. For the sake of this question, let's pretend those technologies could be a combination of anything, i.e. .Net, Cold Fusion, PHP, Ruby On Rails, Lotus/Domino, Perl, Python, Real Media, Flash, Oracle, SAP, MySQL, etc. etc.
Are there managed hosting companies that will essentially rent you a beefy server in a cozy and secure data center with a clean install of Linux/Windows/etc, which will in turn let you install whatever technology you want as long as you have the requisite software licenses.
I could just host this out of my house, but I would prefer not to purchase my own enterprise server(s), T-1, diesel generator, fireproof room, and requisite Red Bull I will need to stay awake just in case it all falls down.
What are my options?
