Trying to understand what IT is doing with my workstation right now. Near-constant prompts to log in to Outlook (I am already logged in) and suddenly, for the first time, most websites (but oddly, not social media) are being blocked with EdgeWave iPrism. What's going on, and should I worry? Details inside. [more inside]

About 7 years ago, I created a website for my small business using Current Webhosting Company's WYSIWYG editor. Current Company has not really kept up with advances in website technology (i.e., no responsive design options, difficult to create a mobile site, clumsy blogging, etc). But I've worked hard on my site and I'm generally proud of it. Should I cut my losses and start all over again? Or can this website be saved... and how??? [more inside]

My plan is to embed the videos from vimeo as opposed to having them actually hosted on the site. I'm trying to figure out how I can recreate the navigation for the different videos as you now see it. Is that possible?

So the work atmosphere at my current employer has been fairly toxic the last year. Actually the well was poisoned several years back when the department manager's wife was promoted from a secretarial assistant to a management position but that episode of nepotism another surreal story I won't get into. The final straw was the moment they re-structured my position, thereby giving me a $45,000 pay-cut while simultaneously asking me to do more work.
I believe this led me to my current dire straits in my mid-career crisis in choosing whether I should embark on a totally new career opportunity or questionable legitimacy or whether I might be better off playing it safe.

I'm trying to remember a site I once saw offered up as an example of good high information density web design. I think I originally saw it on AskMe but can't find it now - it was a parts catalog (lots of screws and other stuff), white background, green trim, I think the name of the company was a surname starting with M. The primary method of using the site was searching for parts by category, and it had lots of small black and white photos. Any idea what I'm thinking of?

I'm helping my friend grow his small business. Things are going great except that we're at the awkward stage where we're too busy for me and the ops manager to handle the internal IT and Web stuff anymore, but can't quite justify hiring someone to take it over full time.
I'd like to hire someone to be our on-call IT guy. Pay them a small retainer, and get billed by the hour. [more inside]

I came across this website a few weeks ago that was selling a web design/dev tutorial package, among other things. Depending on how much you paid (above or below the average price), you'd get a certain number of lessons from the total package. I also remember part of your payment went to the charity of your choice.
There was a basic intro to HTML/CSS lesson, one on turning a Photoshop design into a web site, and 7-8 more for a total of ~$11. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

I am a midwifery student in the US. I found a website of a man who claims to be a midwife. This man has a very disturbing website with very graphic, I would say pornographic, photos of women whose births he has attended. These are poor women of color from another country. Going by the demographics, it is likely that many of these women come from conservative catholic background and would be horrified by nude photos of themselves plastered all over the internet. There is little chance that most of these women have internet access and ZERO Chance that all of these women have consented to these photos being placed on the world wide web. I am very angry that these women have had such graphic photos placed of them on the web without their consent. What steps should I take to have these photos taken down, if that is possible? I have done a whois search and gotten that info. What is my best possible course of action to have the maximum chance of having these women's photos removed and/or the site shut down?

I will soon be working on a project that involves the development of a web platform and will be hiring part-time engineers. I would like to know enough about programming and web development to be able to collaborate with them and understand the language, and have realistic expectations of when things get built. So I am not looking to learn how to program (I wish I had time for that), but rather have a basic understanding of how the system works and fits together (front-end, back-end, etc.)
Anyone know of any good online resources- online courses, websites, etc. for this type of knowledge? I've checked out Code Academy and Khan Academy, but both seem heavily focused on helping you learn how to write code vs. understanding the system abstractly and holistically. But I may have missed something. Thanks in advance for your help!

I'm in the earliest possible stages of building a web interface that will make it easy to display, graph, download, summarize, and interact with a wide variety of data. If you use scientific data from the internet, what are some of the websites you've encountered that make using data the easiest, most intuitive, and give you the best control? Also, what are some must-have features for you, and some of the best and worst design decisions the site builders have made? [more inside]
