Should I bring my 7-year-old son to see the Inauguration? Or, how much cold and crowding would you
endure to be present at a major historical event (and so your son could tell his children, "I was there.")? [more inside]

What plants are suitable for putting on our deck in Seattle? There's no yard/soil, so they must live in containers. The deck is quite large so I was thinking about large decorative plants like small trees or some form of bamboo. Climate-wise, we have the typical PNW weather of moist winters that only fall below freezing a few days out of the year. Also, we are completely ignorant of gardening and would rather have something that can survive with a minimum of attention.

Unlike Maine lobstermen
, I'm happy that the price of lobster is falling. But where is the best place to eat lobster out near Washington DC at a reasonable price? All the places I can see are swanky joints that are crazy expensive.

Tell me about some great yoga or Pilates teachers in DC who work with older students. My mom has chronic pain issues, arthritis and osteoporosis. We would like to work with someone to set up a gentle routine that she can do at home.

If you were going to Washington, DC for a week and were the kind of person who likes to do the museum thing by day and go out to eat/drink/merry at night, where would you stay?
I'm headed down there Mon-Thur next week and have no clue

Please help me identify this bird in Washington State (nocturnal). I didn't see it, but I heard it. It was a long screech, starting at a low pitch, and ending at a high pitch. The screech lasted a full second or so.
There was one right in front of my house, and another in the backyard. If it helps for region, I'm out in Snohomish where there's tons of pine trees around.

I'll be driving from Los Angeles to the Seattle area in a few weeks. I don't want to endure the dreariness of I-5 all the way up, but I also don't want to spend too much time on the trip. Three days would probably be ideal; four would be acceptable. What route will provide the best balance of beauty/points of interest and expediency? [more inside]

My family is considering moving to Oregon (or conceivably Washington) in a couple of years, and we are going to visit soon. I'd like to collect suggestions of possible locations so we can try to visit. We would like a cheap, small town with a liberal climate along the Washington/Oregon border or moderately near the coast. Is this possible?

Growing up in Washington state in the 70’s and 80’s I watched a PBS show about a grandma that visited sites of interest (Columbia Gorge, White Bird Pass, etc.) in the Northwest with her grandchildren. Production quality, as I remember it, was rather crude. Does anyone else remember this show? What was the name? Thanks!
