How do I convert a wma file to wav or mp3?

How do I convert a wma file to wav or mp3? I'm running Windows XP. I have a tiny file (30 seconds) that needs to be converted, so I'd like to avoid purchasing software if possible.

Based on a prior metafilter conversation, I downloaded a trial version of something called DMC, but it won't convert the wma file, I get error messages.

Thank you metafilterites.

I want to insert an mp3 file into my blog.

I'd like to add an Mp3 file to my blogger blog. How do I do it? I started with a .wma file, and I figured out how to convert that to an mp3. Ok, step on accomplished! I also found the html coding to insert the mp3, but obviously I have to have the mp3 loaded to some website first so I can use the location to insert the link. Is that making sense? Is there a place I could put the Mp3 file so that it's "out there" on the internets, and then I can code it into the blog?

What is the best (or any) Mac software to put protected WMAs on my iPod?

What is the best (or any) Mac software to put protected WMA audiobooks, from my local library via NetLibrary, on my iPod? I'm trying to put the free audiobooks that my library offers on my iPod, but can't find a Mac solution.

My library, like many many others, is using NetLibrary to offer audiobooks to its members, but for whatever reason, not only do NetLibrary's wma files not work on iPods, there is no way to access the site with a Mac -- I've tried Firefox, Safari, Camino, Flock and none of them have worked. Bleh!

So there is one previous AskMeFi thread on this topic -- posted here -- which offers the good suggestion of TuneBite on Windows, but I can't find anything comparable for Macs, or anything free for Windows (Tunebite is $25).

Any help is hugely appreciated. Libraries are supposed to be free, right? Right!

How to put a WMA into a WMV with blank video?

How can I turn a WMA into a WMV with blank video? Here's what I would like to do. I want to take an existing MP3, which I will convert to WMA, but I want to wrap it into a WMV with nothing but blank video (or a static image that is displayed in every frame) so that it can be played on a device that only supports WMV files natively (but not WMA audio files).

Bonus points for finding an open-source way to do this that can be automated easily. If I need to do it by hand each time, it will will be significantly more inconvenient.

WMA in GarageBand 3?

I swear I saw an Apple demo where they just dragged WMA files right into Garageband 3. Is this possible? I have a voice recorder that creates WMA files and I want to use them in GB3 to make podcasts.

I even bought Flip4Mac Player Pro thinking that would help.

I CAN convert WMA to AIFF using Quicktime Player (w/quicktime pro)
I think this must mean I have installen Flip4Mac correctly.

But the drag-WMA-into-the-Garageband-window fails, (AIFF files drag in just fine.)

Is this a Flip4Mac issue, a brain dead user issue, a GB3 problem,or what? Hints would be greatly appreciated.

Make my music free!

I want to buy an iPod Nano. This makes sense given that I already have 70+ gigs of MP3s all organized with iTunes. However, I also love Rhapsody which uses DRM protected WMA files that won't play on an iPod. Still, I'd like to be able to use a Rhapsody-to-go subscription in conjunction with iTunes and an iPod. Is there a way to make Rhapsody's DRM protected WMA files play on an iPod? I'm aware of solutions like Tunebite and output stacker.. But those involve re-recording and subjecting relatively crappy sounding music files to two layers of compression, making them even worse.

Just to clarify -- not doing anything illegal here, paying for a service, just want to get around the evil DRM. (Or am I somehow violating the DMCA?)

Several AskMeFi threads have danced around this question but not addressed it...

Question number 6188

MP3 to WMA in OS X, EI.EI.O. I'm looking for some utility to convert MP3s to WMA format under OS X. I have a cheap "MP3" player that will either take some proprietary format of MP3, that will never never ever work under OS X, or takes Windows Media WMA files, no matter what platform. It can run from iTunes, the Terminal, or some magic. Anyone have any ideas?
