What's a good, open source alternative to Visio? I'm looking to do some flowcharts, absolutely hate working with the draw tools in Word, and need something fairly simple, easy to use. Prefer not to use web based, don't like trusting data to third parties.

visio noob question: connected two shapes from center of one to center of other. Moved one shape. Connector line didnt stick to the same point on the second shape, it moved around and connected to a different point on it. How make it so that connector line stays in the same location no matter where I move the second shape? [more inside]

Isometric Charts in Visio: Though I work on a Mac, I need to produce IA documents and Wireframes that clients can open and dink with in Visio. I'd like to produce an isometric network diagram similar to that seen here, perhaps using the templates and shapes available here, but I can't seem to make it all work. Advice?

Is there any easy way in, say, Visio or another MS Office product, to make an attractive chart in a compact tree view format? I am trying to make an Organization Chart that looks more similar to a Windows Explorer folder directory than a traditional Org Chart. [more inside]

Visio weirdness: if I open any Visio document on a network drive the program opens several identical copies of that document (15 to be precise). This doesn't happen if I open a document on my desktop's HDD. What's going on? [more inside]

Take the story Rumplestiltskin and the despair of the Millers Daughter in that room with the spinning wheel and the straw and the looming demand for gold, for the Millers Daughters take me for the Spinning Wheel take Visio 2002, for the straw take a bundle of very rough sketches of a website and the possible routes through it with with information gathering, registration, logins, detailed reporting etc as well as a technical spec, /straw, for gold read a beautiful Visio 2002 presentation pulling into focus all the disparate strands for showing to client, for Rumplestiltskin read ask.metafilter. You can have my first born if you can point me to good vision samples (actual files). I just installed this morning and have not used it before and really need a boost. I will put my email on my profile for a whileen if anyone has any goodies for me.

VisioFilter. Okay. This should be terribly simple. I am quite sure there is an add-on or a macro that I can throw into Visio that will allow me to right-click on a page/tab in a Visio document and duplicate that page and the contents therein. Why this isn't a native application function, I have no idea. Any suggestions or sources?
