My cat is very sick. We went to the vet and were incredibly unsatisfied. Please recommend an awesome vet in the South Hampton Roads (preferably Norfolk or Virginia Beach) area. (Also, if you have ANY idea what's wrong with my cat, please give me an idea, because I'm sick to my stomach with worry.) [more inside]

Puppy has developed bald patches on head and face. Antibiotics prescribed by vet a month ago haven't helped. Should the puppy's owner have a very expensive biopsy done, or just leave it alone and hope it goes away? [more inside]

Does my cat have a chronic respiratory infection, or is it possible she just naturally has poor breathing passages? Ever since my partner and I adopted her and her sister in August she has had periodic coughing and hacking fits that have been relatively unaffected by three separate rounds of antibiotics. Now I wonder if maybe she just has the equivalent of a deviated septum, or whether it's time for hospitalization. [more inside]

Veterinary Opinion Filter. Meeting with an orthopedic specialist next Tuesday to discuss partial tear of our 7.5-year old boxer's cranial cruciate ligament (rear right) and potential partial tear of the left as well. What are the right questions to ask the vet and are there any feasible alternatives to TPLO surgery? [more inside]

Our three cats have fleas and worms. We've tried a couple of over-the-counter products, but they haven't helped (especially with the worms, which are our biggest concern). The vet wants to sell us expensive remedies, of which we are very skeptical. Before we shell out big bucks for the stuff the vet suggests, are there other things we should try? What has worked for you?
