A friend of mine, a woman in her late fifties, just moved from NJ to Burlington VT, post-divorce. What might she like or need in her new home? Should I just get 50 lbs of road salt, or can anyone come up with something better?
I'll be in Burlington, VT on Tuesday/Wednesday night for work and need some restaurant recommendations! [more inside]
We are planning a quick 2-night getaway trip to Brattleboro, leaving from North of Boston. I'd love your help choosing a route that will be scenic to drive, but not too too long, and also your recommendations for interesting, quirky, fun stops between here and there, and/or things to do while based there. We enjoy history, food, drink, farming, music, vintage/flea stuff, Americana, hiking, canoeing, etc. We've never spent time in the town before and will be staying right downtown. Thank you!
I'm driving through Quebec on vacation the first week of June, and would love some general travel tips, ideas, and itinerary advice in exploring the Eastern Townships, Quebec City, and Montreal, for someone who's never been 'round those parts. [more inside]
Dearest Mefites of the USA, my 21 yo daughter is planning to galavant around your country this Northern Hemisphere summer, and we'd like your input! Any advice/recommendations for things to see, places to go, how to get there, accommodation, etc appreciated. We're yet to book flights, leaving everything pretty much to the last minute. We have friends in San Fran who will likely be her first stop, then after that, all is variable. [more inside]
I've moved to Vermont. How do I become an official resident?
I'm going to burlington vermont this weekend for a job interview. I know no one there, and have never been there before. I really want to watch the fight on Saturday night, though. Where should I go to watch the fight and maybe meet a few nice strangers? I have no preference for drinks but good food is always welcome.

Mrs. Ferg and I are planning a trip to New England in June with the smaller Fergs. Our daughter is looking at both Bowdoin and Middlebury for college this coming year. She's got a pretty good idea of what they're about academically but not much of an idea of how campus life (physical campus, social life, student body mix) might differ. Anyone with knowledge (of both care to offer a comparison? We live in Seattle and visited Middlebury during the summer (no students) and have not seen the Bowdoin campus, so her direct experience is very limited. [more inside]
Looking for a snuggly kick-back but still a little fancy and yet not insanely expensive restorative non-kid trip within a four hour radius of Western Massachusetts. Help me find a suitable mountaintop in New England to go camping with my dad; somewhere where we won't have to see anyone else. Details within. [more inside]
When I was a kid, I read a book about a little girl who was on vacation in the mountains of Vermont with her family. She became friends with flying monsters/dragons/dinosaurs. That's all that I remember!
Hi all From NYC, I'd like a weekend getaway to VT, where I can take an Amtrak to the station and walk around a small town, enjoy a B&B, and so on. If there were camping accessible from said train, that would be the best! Id be happy to rent a car in VT and return on train if necessary, too.
I'm interested in visiting a Frost Landmark in September as part of a road trip to Northern New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts in September. But there are so many to choose from! And my traveling companion probably won't put up with visiting ALL of them. So help me pick, particularly if you have experience with visiting one or some or all of them. [more inside]

My daughter just turned 3 and is ready to learn to downhill ski. We live in Norwich, VT, and can head west to Vermont or east to New Hampshire for beginner lessons. My friend's daughter was travelling to Canada over the weekend. Apparently she was stopped at the border due to some health insurance related issue. She didn't make it to the hostel she was supposed to stay at the first night, or the volunteer program she was destined for. She called those places when she knew she wouldn't make it, but she hasn't called home at all, as far as we can tell. And we have no idea where she is right now. What can we do? [more inside]

My wife and I are visiting Vermont this week, and we will be spending at least a couple of days in some other New England states afterward. We would like to know where we should go to get the best maple creemees.
My brother-in-law will be getting married at the outdoor chapel in Camden, ME in mid-October. Yes, the idea of an outdoor wedding along the seacost of Maine in autumn strikes me as a less-than-ideal plan, but that's a different subject altogether. I will have two weeks for visiting northern New England, so an itinerary of sorts needs developing. And here's where YOU come in! [more inside]
My boyfriend and I have decided to take advantage of some sequester-related time off from work around Memorial Day to visit the last three states that he has never seen. We're planning to devote a full day to each state. We've talked with friends and consulted the interwebs to get ideas, but want to make sure we don't miss any hidden gems. So, if you could only do one thing in each of these states, what would it be? [more inside]
A (legally) mentally disabled 21 year old girl in Vermont ran away with a guy from New Hampshire who she met on the internet. Her parents unfortunately did not establish guardianship, and the police say there is essentially nothing they can do. Can anyone recommend a lawyer in Vermont/New Hampshire who can help the parents establish temporary guardianship, and also, what else should the parents be doing? [more inside]
My daugter, age 22, is in trouble a long, long way from home (Burlington, VT; her mom and I are in middle GA) with the family car. She had an accident, her fault. Nobody was hurt, thank heavens, but she was arrested (for the record, not DUI) and the car was towed off and impounded. It is pretty badly damaged and not driveable. There's no other car to use. The disabled one is running up a $50 per day impound fee which I need to stop as soon as I can. Probably I should just give it to a junkyard and let them haul it off, but I've got no notion how to arrange that. More important, what can I do from here to help my girl? Can I find her an attorney by remote control somehow? What else should I be thinking about? Ideas and advice? I would be very grateful!

In the last year on our road into town in rural Vermont, we have seen the personal effects of 3 people who have recently died packed into dumpsters at the side of the road. In one case the family had a tag sale and sold all the valuable stuff (her crystal collection) and tossed the rest in the dumpster. For some reason this creeps me out big time and I don't want it to happen to me. Are there best practices for disposing of the personal effects of family members? How did your family dispose of the stuff of the deceased that you didn't want? Yes.... I know about a will and have one.
