How do i keep my headset from causing feedback in Ventrilo? If someone else is talking while i have my push-to-talk button down, i seem to send their voice right back to them, like if i had a microphone up to a set of speakers. [more inside]

My gaming friends use Ventrilo to chat while playing WoW. I've downloaded the Mac version of the Ventrilo software, but when I tried to use it I got an error message stating that I had the wrong Codec, so I was unable to hear or speak to them. Is there a piece of software my friend can download for his server that would allow my mac to play with their computer? Or something that I can download for mine?
