My mom is coming to visit and I'm looking to rent a furnished apartment for a week around downtown Vancouver. My budget is approximately $600. If that figure doesn't work, what's a more realistic budget? More importantly, where can I find short-term rentals besides craigslist?

Where can I buy cheap groceries in the Vancouver/Burnaby area? I'd like to know where all the ethnic markets are, or smaller shops that offer lower prices than supermarkets. Economy-of-scale savings are out as I don't have a car. For the purposes of this question, I'll define "cheap" as "cheaper than Superstore".
