Hotels in Vancouver with good transit access

We're off for a late-booked trip to Vancouver in August and need to find a place to stay. Most hotels are booked in the West End/Downtown/Yaletown area. What hotels would you recommend that are moderately ($100-200) priced with easy transit access to tourist attractions? We'd like to use public transit if possible, but can rent a car if public transit is infeasible. We will have at least one member of our party who can't walk longish distances, and a toddler to deal with as well, so frequent bus changes may be a challenge. We were looking at the Holiday Inn Express Burnaby, is this a sane choice?

Where can I buy humanely acquired milk and cream in Vancouver, BC?

Roadtrip from Hammond, Louisianna to Vancouver, BC

I will be in Hammond, Louisiana this October and wanted to make a road trip back to my home in Vancouver Canada. The current plan is to buy a vehicle in Hammond or New Orleans, then drive through Texas and up the coast. I am an artist, so visiting sites like Marfa to see the Chianti Foundation and visiting LA to see the MOCA and the Hammer are priorities. I am asking for advice on art sites and routes with the most interesting or essential things to see. I've visited a few places in the US but this is a big trip for me I may not be able to make again so I'd like to make the most of it. If you are American, assume I know nothing. The obvious for you may not be that obvious to a Canadian. Thanks!

Where to buy a stylish but affordable trenchcoat in Vancouver BC

I'm going to be up in Vancouver this weekend and want to shop for a new spring coat. Something trenchcoat style but not in black or beige - cool colors or prints/patterns would be better. Size 12 or M/L, between $100 and $200. The style constraints are that it should not be teenagery but not dowdy either - I like classic cuts but trendy colors and patterns. I already plan to check out The Bay.

Stylish rain gear for a rainy city (Vancouver) ?

Moved to Vancouver not too long ago, I'm still getting used the rainy weather that's upon us. I'm looking for outerwear that can withstand the rain and still look pretty stylish. So, parkas and other standard North Face/MEC outdoorsy gear is out of consideration for now. Male, late 20s here. I'm a fan of the classic raincoat but most look too baggy on me, or seem too unwieldy. Is there any hope for me? Thanks (:

Is this a thing anywhere other than Vancouver?

A friend just mentioned suiting up to go trim her razor tipped holly tree, and it reminded me that when I first moved to Vancouver in 1990, the house we rented had that crushed beer bottle stucco all over it and a holly tree in the front yard. Many long running jokes were made about how dangerous it was to come home after a night of drinking, plus also the beer bottles exacting their revenge. We'd never seen anything as nasty as that stucco before, though it's quite common on post-war houses in East Van, and I've never seen anything like it anywhere else. The deadly material looks like this. My friends call it the kid-grater and woe be unto the child who falls against it. Has anyone ever seen it anywhere outside of the Vancouver/the Lower Mainland? And can anyone tell me anything about the history of it and how anyone could ever have thought it was a good idea? And is it really beer bottles? It really looks like beer bottles.

Travelfilter: How to get the cheapest flight from Vancouver - Tokyo?

I've wanted to go to Tokyo all my life, and have a few weeks off soon. I've been looking for flights and the cheapest I can find are $1450 all in... but I suspect if I the trip was broken up a bit by not flying there directly, it'd be a lot cheaper. Are there any resources you know of to help with this/have you done this before/do you know a good route that would shave off the $$$? Time isn't overly important as I have three weeks between jobs for exploring. But I don't want to be paying this off till next year. Help!
