We are planning a beach vacation (for about 7-8 days) in Mexico in next few months with a 5-year-old and an 18-month-old. We are planning on spending most of the time at the beach or around the pool. Might for an excursion, if it’s something that we can handle with an 18-month-old. At night, we like the option of getting out from the resort and walk around the streets (if it’s safe) and maybe try street food. No nightclubs for us. More information inside [more inside]
I'm getting laid off in February, and after that I'd like to give myself a month to reset by spending most of it on a beach with books and fruity drinks. I can fly to Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta, or Cancun for free, so I'm looking for places that are within an hour or two of those airports. Where should I go? [more inside]
I've got a week to myself in Mexico, starting in mid-December. I want to really learn how to surf, and maybe do some diving or snorkeling too. I don't have a very big budget, and I'm flying home out of Puerto Vallarta, but starting the trip in Guadalajara. I'm looking for recommendations on hostels, surf schools, and other things to do in the PV area. [more inside]
The ladyfriend and I would like to decamp to Mexico for a week or two after Christmas. We are definitely not the frat-party/Cancun types. We're more of the "This hut on the beach is $20 a night and has no electricity" types. And this totally an off-the-grid/lay on the beach sitch. [more inside]
I have unexpectedly received a week off work from June 13th to the 21st. Please tell me where and how to vacation alone. [more inside]
I am trying to rent an apartment for a month in Playa del Carmen through a website that I found on google. Lets say it's called rent-playa-del-carmen.com (I can name the actual website if it's relevant). So far, I have been getting very professional responses with all my questions properly answered. The issue is that the agent is now asking for the full month of rent ($2500) plus $1000 deposit 30 days before my arrival. This is raising a bunch of red flags for me. Is this common or am I being scammed? Should I refuse and only pay the deposit? Is this such a big red flag that I I should walk away?
Heading to Tulum without the kids at the end of Jan/Beginning of Feb for 3 nights and am seeking recommendations for accommodations based upon relatively recent stays. Our requirements: Quiet, clean, nice bed, ceiling fans, hot water, good restaurant, on the ocean. We'd like a cabana but also would consider the right hotel. We can spend up to $500/night for the right place but I'd love to find something closer to $300. Ideally, not next to any major new developments, which I understand are starting to take over the area. Thanks in advance for any help!

In about a month, 3 friends and I are going to an all-inclusive in Cancun. I'm fairly well-travelled, but I prefer going to cities and exploring around, so I've never done a cruise or any type of beachy resort vacation. My boyfriend, my father, and I are going to take a trip together in September. My boyfriend and I are in our early 30s, fairly active, and are interested in beaches, ruins, rainforests/jungles, white water rafting, and possibly scuba diving. My dad is in his late 50s, quite overweight (like probably 150-200 lbs overweight), and enjoys luxury hotels, relaxing, and fun stuff that's not TOO physically taxing. I haven't seen him in a few years, but he may be interested in white water rafting and scuba diving, if his weight isn't an issue. We're looking at somewhere in Central America, most likely Belize or the Yucatan, but we're also considering Costa Rica and are open to other suggestions. [more inside]

My family's regular Mexican vacation spot is a combination of Isla Mujeres & Tulum area. That said, we have a new 10-month old baby this time and are looking for something a little closer. I saw that flights from LAX to Los Mochis are particularly inexpensive; can anyone recommend small, not too touristy beach communities similar to what we'd find in Yucatan (or nicer!) within a bus trip or short drive of Los Mochis? Bonus points for recommendations for inexpensive house rentals or interesting things to do, since (I assume) there are no cenotes in northern Mexico for us to snorkel in all day.
I am a 49 y/o woman traveling for Xmas to Akumal (near Cancun) with my family and my extended family. We are staying in condos right on the beach and I want to pack comfortable clothes/shoes but still look good. What besides swimsuits and cover-ups and hat should I take? What shoes? I have Keen water sandals but they do fill up with sand on the beach and are probably mainly for river shoes when you need to walk on rocks. I also have black teva flip flops. Not the most flattering at all! We will be snorkeling, reading on the beach, walking, sightseeing going to restaurants, playing with young nieces and nephews. Thank you!

Traveling to Oaxaca with a friend for a 2-4 week Spanish immersion program this June/July. We are looking for some advice about Spanish language programs, homestays/lodging, and transportation. Where should I take my partner for our anniversary in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico? We're looking at the two-night packages at Las Rosas, but would like suggested alternatives, preferably smaller and more intimate. Also looking for good spa and massage recommendations. If San Felipe is waaay better, please let me know. I researched it online and it looks like a marina and golf courses for American weekenders, which is sort of what we want to avoid. Oh, we're also interested in a day hike, maybe inland in the mountains.
