My wife and I are taking a quick vacation in Orlando this weekend. We've both visited the area several times before (usually for work) so have visited the big parks and usual tourist attractions.
We want this vacation to be different.

I'm being forced to visit Disney in September, for two and a half days. The rest of my family will be staying longer, so I get to pick what we do those two and a half days. My son is 5 and this is his first Disney "experience". What the heck do I select?

Vacation filter: My wife & I would like to take a three-day-long weekend trip for our fifth anniversary the second weekend in September (not Labor Day). Want to do nothing but laze on a beach within either a 3-4 hour drive or flight (non-stop only) from NYC. Looking for suggested destinations & hotels/resorts. Some more details inside.

Recommendations for a Florida vacation home/condo/etc search.
What resources do people use? I know about
HomeAway,
VRBO,
Flipkey, and, ahem, craigslist.
I have never booked anything but hotels before, so am a little worried about just going the craigslist route. The other 3 sites look legit, but maybe there are other, hidden, gems :)
thanks in advance

Last-minute vacation madness: my sister in DC just asked me to plan a vacation to Disney World for my 6-year-old niece during this year's winter holidays. She'd like 3-5 days, either before or after Christmas. Today is already December 8. Is this perfectly doable, or difficult/expensive but worth it, or not recommended? If we go ahead at this late date, what can we do to get the most out of the trip?

I got a piece of junk mail from a company called Florida Direct Vacations who said they were going to charge me $140 for some kind of vacation package if I didn't cancel the order by May 22. I think they got my credit card information from Holland America, who I took a cruise with a few years ago; they claim to be some kind of authorized reseller for them, although I've never done business with Florida Direct Vacations before. I called and canceled, and they charged my debit card anyway. I've called and they say they never got my cancellation and, basically, tough luck. What now?

I want to travel to Sanibel or Captiva Islands - I am looking for accommodation, but I find it very hard to make a decision based exclusively on online research. I would welcome any advice on where to stay.
I am not very fond of big chain hotels like Holiday Inn's etc.... I much prefer small motels or self-catered cabins, but I am afraid to book a shabby place because online everything looks pristine..... so, ideally I would love to find a small motel or cabin by the sea, in a quiet part of town. Another thing to consider is that I am traveling with my parents and our baby, therefore I am looking for places that have a apt-like layout, with ideally the choice of one or two bedrooms and a kitchenette.
Any advice on this and other must-see, must-eat, must-do attractions would be greatly appreciated.
